How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you passionate about supporting deaf students to communicate, learn and thrive?
Do you have a minimum Level 2 BSL qualification and the confidence to use British Sign Language in an educational setting?
Are you ready to make a genuine difference to students across Chelmsford?

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic BSL Support Worker to join a welcoming school environment in Chelmsford, supporting deaf and hearing-impaired students to access learning and develop their confidence.

As a BSL Support Worker, you will work closely with students, teachers and other support staff to provide effective communication and learning support throughout the school day. You will use your British Sign Language skills to help students understand lessons, communicate with others and participate fully in school life.

The successful candidate will hold a minimum Level 2 BSL qualification and have a genuine interest in supporting students with hearing impairments. Previous experience working within a school or SEN setting is desirable, but we are also interested in hearing from candidates with transferable experience and the right attitude.

    Key responsibilities:

Provide BSL communication support to deaf and hearing-impaired students.
Support students to access classroom activities, lessons and wider school opportunities.
Work alongside teachers to help create an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
Encourage students' independence, confidence and participation.
Adapt your communication and support to meet individual needs.
Maintain professional communication with teachers, support staff and families.

    About you

We are looking for a BSL Support Worker who is patient, approachable and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning. You will need strong communication skills, a calm and supportive approach, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.

A minimum Level 2 BSL qualification is essential for this role, alongside a willingness to use your signing skills confidently within the school environment. Experience supporting deaf students, SEN students or young people with additional needs would be advantageous.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your experience within education while making a meaningful difference to students in Chelmsford. You will become an important part of the school's support team and play a key role in ensuring students have the communication support they need to succeed.

If you're an enthusiastic BSL Support Worker with a minimum Level 2 BSL qualification and you're ready to make a difference in Chelmsford, we'd love to hear from you.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
