Stevenage - Grounds Operatives

To undertake diverse and variable tasks associated within the extensive field of commercial grounds maintenance and Street Scene services. Applying sound horticultural knowledge and machinery operation to produce a professional standard of service delivery.

Key tasks, duties, responsibilities and accountability's of the post

1. To carry out duties related to grounds maintenance, horticulture, agriculture, sports pitch husbandry and cemetery operation; utilising knowledge, skills and training to achieve the required standard.

Duties include but not limited to:

· Grass Cutting

· Pruning

· Soft Landscaping

· Tree Works

· Sport Pitch Marking

· Grave Digging/Shoring

· Mechanical Sweeping

2. To operate and maintain tools and machinery in accordance with HASAW (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974) PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998) and where appropriate COSHH (Control of Substance Hazardous to Health 2002) and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998).

3. To ensure the security of vehicles, tools and machinery at all times used by yourself and colleagues.

4. To complete administrative records in relation to vehicle and machinery checks, completed works, accident reports, HAVs (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome) monitoring and any other required documents, either in paper or electronic form.

5. To build and maintain good working relations with colleagues, members of the public and contractors to form a productive and collaborative working environment.

6. To seek out best practice, innovation and change that may develop and enhance the service delivery of operations at SDS and report any such concepts for consideration.
