How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Company:

Theo James Recruitment is working with an established and highly respected heavy engineering business with a long-standing reputation for delivering technically challenging, precision-engineered projects.

Operating from an extensive manufacturing facility in the North East, the company specialises in large-scale CNC machining and provides additional capabilities across fabrication, assembly, refurbishment, inspection and testing. The business works on complex projects across demanding sectors including defence, marine, nuclear and renewable energy.

Continued investment in modern CNC machinery, tooling and precision measurement technology makes this an excellent opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys technically interesting, varied work within a genuine engineering environment.

    Job Description:

As Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key role between Sales and Production, ensuring the shop floor has accurate drawings, documentation and manufacturing information required to successfully deliver each project.

The Manufacturing Engineer will review new contracts and sales estimates, understand customer requirements and translate this information into clear and complete manufacturing documentation.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    * Producing manufacturing packs, including ballooned drawings and feature lists.

    * Reviewing engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances and specifications.

    * Identifying missing or conflicting technical information before production begins.

    * Checking incoming materials against specification and resolving discrepancies.

    * Producing 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD/CAM software.

    * Supporting offline CNC programming where required.

    * Working closely with Sales, Production and shop-floor engineering teams.

    * Contributing towards improvements in estimating accuracy and manufacturing efficiency.

The Manufacturing Engineer will have genuine input into how work is planned and executed, making this particularly suited to someone who combines practical machining knowledge with strong technical and problem-solving ability.

    Skills & experience:

To be considered for the Manufacturing Engineer position, you should have:

    * Previous experience programming and operating CNC machinery.

    * Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes.

    * Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings.

    * Experience using CAD/CAM software.

    * Understanding of dimensions, tolerances and manufacturing specifications.

    * Strong attention to quality and accuracy.

    * Ability to identify manufacturing issues and resolve problems effectively.

    * Good communication skills when working between commercial and production teams.

    * An organised approach with the ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously.

Experience setting and machining one-off fabrications or castings would be advantageous, alongside inspection and measurement experience.

This Manufacturing Engineer opportunity would particularly suit an experienced CNC Machinist, Programmer or manufacturing professional looking to move into a broader engineering position while retaining strong involvement with machining and production.

Working hours are Monday–Thursday 08:00–16:30 and Friday 07:00–13:00, with flexible working arrangements available.

If you are an experienced Manufacturing Engineer or CNC professional looking to take the next step within a technically challenging heavy engineering environment, please apply for further information
