Freight Forwarding | Coalville
Up to £36,000 DOE
We are currently working with an established international freight forwarding business looking for an experienced Senior European Road Freight Operator to join their growing Coalville operation.
This is a senior, hands-on operational role with significant ownership of European and UK Road Freight activity. You’ll be responsible for managing freight movements, sourcing solutions through external hauliers, negotiating competitive rates and providing a high level of service to customers.
The business operates through an established network of external hauliers rather than its own fleet, so this would particularly suit someone who knows the European Road Freight market, is confident sourcing capacity and enjoys finding the right operational and commercial solution for the customer.
There is also scope to help develop and grow the Road Freight offering over time as the Coalville operation expands.
What they’re looking for:
* Strong hands-on European Road Freight operational experience
* Good knowledge of European Import & Export and UK domestic Road Freight
* Experience managing Road Freight movements throughout the operational lifecycle
* Strong knowledge of external hauliers and European transport partners
* Confidence sourcing capacity, obtaining rates and negotiating directly with hauliers
* An established network of haulier contacts would be advantageous
* Strong customer service and key account management skills
* Good commercial awareness, including quotations, costs and profitability
* Good working knowledge of UK–EU customs and transit requirements
* CargoWise experience would be advantageous
* A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to take ownership of the operation
The role will involve:
* Managing European Road Freight Import and Export movements alongside UK domestic freight
* Receiving and processing customer bookings from instruction through to delivery
* Sourcing suitable and cost-effective freight solutions through external hauliers and transport partners
* Obtaining and comparing rates, negotiating with hauliers and confirming bookings
* Coordinating collections, deliveries and delivery appointments
* Liaising with customers, hauliers and internal teams throughout each movement
* Monitoring shipments, providing proactive customer updates and resolving operational issues
* Obtaining PODs and maintaining accurate shipment milestones
* Working closely with the dedicated Customs team on Import, Export and transit requirements
* Processing supplier costs and customer invoicing
* Onboarding new haulage partners and maintaining relevant documentation
* Supporting customer KPIs, operational reporting and SOPs where required
The Opportunity
Based from a brand-new office in Coalville, you’ll join a close-knit operation working alongside the Operations Manager, Customer Service team and in-house warehouse operation, as well as the dedicated Customs team and colleagues across the wider UK business.
The immediate focus is on taking ownership of existing Road Freight activity and further strengthening the Coalville operation. Longer term, the business is looking to grow its transport offering, develop new and existing customer activity and potentially expand the team around this position.
