How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Public spaces are one of the Council’s most visible and valued services. We are looking for a Public Space Assistant Manager to help lead the effective delivery of Street Cleansing, Town Centre and Parks services.

Reporting to the Public Space and Bereavement Services Manager, you will provide operational leadership to supervisors, team leaders and operatives. You will help ensure services are safe, efficient and responsive, while supporting service improvement, positive culture change and effective use of resources.

Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day service delivery, monitoring performance, using data and customer feedback to identify improvements, overseeing budgets, supporting plans and projects, and ensuring health and safety procedures are implemented and reviewed. You will also support corporate events and may be required to supervise out-of-hours operations and emergencies as part of the role.

We are seeking someone with experience of managing operational resources, leading teams and supporting culture change. You should be able to manage competing priorities, analyse and resolve problems, communicate clearly, interpret performance information and work effectively as part of a management team. Knowledge of health and safety legislation, experience of risk assessments, good IT skills and a full driving licence are essential. A relevant leadership, management or coaching qualification, or equivalent significant experience, is also required.

A background in Street Cleansing, Parks or Town Centre operations, knowledge of environmental legislation or horticulture, and experience of working with residents, Councillors, community leaders and Council officers would be advantageous.

This is an opportunity to shape high-profile public-space services, strengthen team performance and contribute to improvements that make a visible difference across the district.
