How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are looking to appoint an experienced Designer’s Site Representative (DSR) to support the delivery of a major design and build development near Denholm, Scotland.

Working as the on-site representative of the design team, the DSR will provide the key interface between the designers and construction teams, helping ensure that works are delivered in accordance with the approved design, specifications and relevant standards.

This is a broad infrastructure position, and we are interested in speaking with individuals from a range of civil engineering backgrounds. Relevant experience could include highways, drainage/water, structures, general civils, earthworks or geotechnical engineering.

The position would suit an experienced DSR, Resident Engineer, NEC Supervisor, Clerk of Works, Senior Civils Inspector or construction-focused Civil Engineer who has previously represented a designer or consultant during the construction phase of a major project.

    Key Responsibilities

·Act as the Designer's Site Representative throughout the construction phase.
·Provide a day-to-day link between the site construction teams and the wider design team.
·Monitor construction works for compliance with approved drawings, specifications and design intent.
·Review works across relevant infrastructure packages, which may include highways, drainage, utilities, structures, earthworks and geotechnical works.
·Identify potential design or construction issues at an early stage and communicate these to the appropriate design discipline.
·Review and respond to Technical Queries (TQs) and RFIs, coordinating with the wider design team where required.
·Monitor quality and workmanship and identify departures from the approved design.
·Assist with NCRs, defects and corrective actions, ensuring appropriate technical input is obtained.
·Witness inspections and testing where required and review relevant quality documentation.
·Maintain accurate site records and provide regular reports to the design/project team.
·Attend site, design and progress meetings and contribute to the resolution of construction-stage technical issues.
·Work collaboratively with the client, contractor, designers and other project stakeholders while maintaining the responsibilities of the designer-side role.

    Experience Required

Candidates should have substantial construction-stage experience within civil engineering or infrastructure, ideally on major design & build projects.

Experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered:

Highways & Infrastructure - roads, junctions, pavements, kerbing, drainage, utilities and associated infrastructure.
Water & Drainage - surface water, foul drainage, attenuation, culverts, pipelines and associated infrastructure.
Structures - reinforced concrete, bridges, retaining structures, foundations and other civil structures.
Geotechnical & Earthworks - bulk earthworks, ground improvement, slopes, retaining solutions, piling and associated geotechnical works.

Candidates with previous experience as a Designer's Site Representative will be particularly relevant, although individuals with strong transferable experience as a Resident Engineer, NEC Supervisor, Clerk of Works or Senior Civils Inspector will also be considered.

A strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quality assurance, TQs/RFIs and NCR processes will be important, alongside the ability to communicate effectively between site teams and designers.
