How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The starting salary for this full-time, permanent position is £34,660 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

    We are excited to be hiring a new Assistant Network Coordinator to join our fantastic Network Coordination team based in Leatherhead.

    This role is open to hybrid working with the right balance. As a team we split our time between collaborating with colleagues in the office and working remotely, including from home. This can be discussed further at interview.

    Our Network Coordination Team helps manage one of the country's busiest road networks, ensuring residents, businesses and visitors can travel safely and efficiently across the county. Working at the heart of highway operations, you'll contribute to reducing congestion, minimising disruption and supporting the effective delivery of essential works on Surrey's roads.

    The Network Coordination Team is made up of a Team Leader, Network Coordinators and Network Coordination Administrators, working closely alongside colleagues in the wider Street Works Team, including Compliance and Technical Support.

    As an Assistant Network Coordinator, you'll support the coordination and management of activities taking place on Surrey's highway network. You'll assess permit applications and road space requests submitted by utility companies, contractors and other organisations, ensuring they are accurate and compliant with relevant legislation and procedures.

    You'll also maintain and update information across a range of systems, provide support and cover for Coordinators and Administrators during periods of leave, and work closely with the Team Leader, Senior Network Coordinators and Network Coordinators to help deliver an efficient and responsive service.

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone with knowledge of street works and traffic management legislation who enjoys problem-solving, working collaboratively and contributing to a service that has a visible impact across Surrey. Every day you'll play a part in helping Surrey's road network operate as efficiently as possible, supporting essential works while minimising disruption for the people who live, work and travel across the county.

    Your Application

    In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills:

    Experience working within the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and Traffic Management Act (TMA) legislation, gained within a Highway Authority, Utility Company or a similar environment
    A valid Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) accreditation
    Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work confidently across multiple systems
    Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy operational environment
    The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
    A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to work effectively to deadlines and respond to changing demandsTo apply, we request that you submit a CV and answer the following 4 questions:

    Please tell us about your understanding of traffic management principles? How have you applied these principles in your work, particularly in relation to the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and the Traffic Management Act (TMA)?
    Please describe a situation where you had to ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Act and Highway Act. How did you handle any challenges that arose, and what was the outcome?
    Please can you provide an example of a time when you had to adapt quickly to a challenging situation while working under pressure?     Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

    Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027. This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then. If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected.

    The provisional allocation for this post is East Surrey Council, subject to final confirmation through the wider transition process later this year.
