How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Communication Education Outreach Officer

    Salary – £32,454 - £40,568 (plus benefits)
    Hours – Full-time
    Location – Essex, RM12 5BF

    As a Communication Education Outreach Officer at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in promoting environmental awareness, community engagement, and waste reduction initiatives. You will work closely with local communities, schools, businesses, and the Council to encourage sustainable practices, improve recycling performance, and deliver community benefit commitments.

    This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

    What will you be doing?

    - Manage the annual Community Benefit Plan and produce associated reports and trackers
    - Ensure community benefit commitments are delivered to a high standard
    - Manage funds used for community engagement and environmental initiatives
    - Promote waste reduction and the Waste Hierarchy across the local community
    - Support the Council in improving recycling performance and waste reduction initiatives
    - Produce reports, presentations, educational materials, and communications
    - Arrange and deliver waste education roadshows, school visits, and community events
    - Assist with news articles and social media content relating to environmental services
    - Develop relationships with local charities, community groups, and stakeholders
    - Support environmental improvement projects, including tree planting schemes and carbon offsetting initiatives

    What are we looking for?

    - Experience of planning or delivering environmental education
    - Proven track record of working to defined KPIs
    - Understanding of financial budgeting
    - Excellent administration and organisational skills
    - Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
    - Confident presenter with strong communication skills
    - Positive attitude and ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders
    - Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
    - Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    - Knowledge of local communities, schools, and environmental issues would be advantageous
