How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Teacher - English, Maths & PSHE (Alternative Provision)

    Location: Rochdale
Salary: £32,000 to £38,000 per annum
    Contract: Permanent
    Hours: Full Time
    Start Date: ASAP

Aspire People is recruiting on behalf of an established Alternative Provision in Rochdale for a passionate and dedicated Teacher to deliver NCFE English and Maths qualifications, alongside elements of PSHE, to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 learners.

This specialist setting supports young people who have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including SEMH needs, SEND, disrupted educational journeys and those at risk of exclusion. The provision is built around a trauma-informed, relationship-led approach that helps learners rebuild confidence, re-engage with education and achieve positive future outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who thrives in a smaller, more personalised educational environment and is committed to helping vulnerable young people succeed.

You will teach small groups of learners, delivering engaging and accessible English and Maths programmes while supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning. The role will also include delivering aspects of PSHE, helping learners develop the personal and social skills required for future success.

The successful candidate will be supported by a dedicated team who share a common vision of providing every young person with the opportunity to achieve and progress. The provision places a strong emphasis on building positive relationships, maintaining high expectations and creating individual pathways for success.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Deliver high-quality English and Maths lessons to KS3 and KS4 learners
    - Teach NCFE qualifications and support learners towards recognised outcomes
    - Deliver engaging PSHE sessions that support personal development
    - Assess starting points and plan personalised learning pathways
    - Monitor, track and report on learner progress
    - Adapt teaching to meet SEMH, SEND and additional learning needs
    - Promote confidence, independence and positive engagement with education
    - Create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment
    - Support learners through positive, relational practice
    - Work collaboratively with families, professionals and referring schools

    The ideal candidate will:

    - Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
    - Have experience teaching English, Maths or both subjects
    - Be confident working with learners who have SEMH or SEND needs
    - Demonstrate strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
    - Be resilient, patient and solution-focused
    - Understand the importance of safeguarding and inclusive practice
    - Share a commitment to raising aspirations and improving outcomes for young people

Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with experience in:

    - Alternative Provision
    - PRUs
    - Specialist SEN settings
    - Functional Skills or NCFE delivery
    - GCSE intervention programmes
    - Trauma-informed or relational practice

    What the Provision Offers

    - A permanent teaching position
    - Small class sizes and personalised teaching
    - A supportive and collaborative team environment
    - Opportunities to contribute to the wider development of the provision
    - Strong focus on staff wellbeing and professional development
    - The chance to make a genuine difference to vulnerable learners' futures

    Requirements

    - Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
    - Eligibility to work in the UK
    - Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
    - Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people

If you are a Qualified Teacher looking for a rewarding role within Alternative Provision and want to help young people overcome barriers to education, apply today. A member of the Aspire People team will be in touch to discuss this permanent opportunity in Rochdale.

Aspire People Limited provides services as an Education Agency and an Education Employment Business. Aspire People is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects every candidate to share this commitment. Placements are subject, to appropriate Child Protection screening, including checks with former employers and the Disclosure and Barring Checks
