How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Contracts Officer (Assets)
    Location: Canterbury, Kent

    Known throughout the sector as a Contracts Manager role, you will see this role referred to as a Contracts Officer internally due to the organisation's structure.
    About this Contracts Officer opportunity:
    A fantastic Contracts Officer (Assets) job opportunity in Canterbury, Kent.
    This is a unique job opportunity for you to join Canterbury City Council's collaborative Facilities Management team as a Contracts Officer, taking responsibility for the service's externally commissioned contracts across our exciting portfolio.
    Working closely with other Contracts Officers, colleagues from across the Facilities Management team and other services within the council, you will take responsibility for the end-to-end contract management of our services' externally commissioned contracts.
    Here's what you'll get up to:
    * With a focus on continuous improvement, you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for the management of key contracts, including budgetary control, development of delivery plans, and analysis of contract performance.
    * You will be tendering a variety of construction contracts, delivering procurement efficiencies and value for money. This will include expert specification writing, outlining clear scopes of works and ensuring that all procurement activities are legally compliant.
    * You will be managing and motivating contractors to achieve performance targets.
    * You will ensure that the correct legal notices and payments are issued in line with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
    * You'll accurately value construction work completed and scrutinise contractor's interim and final accounts.
    * You'll answer questions about the delivery of contracts and instruments they relate to such as HSG274, control of asbestos regulations, lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations to ensure compliance.
    Working pattern of our Contracts Officer:
    * This role will be primarily home based with site visits and meetings at the council offices/hubs when required. Access to an office space is available if preferred.
    * Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
    * 37 hours per week.
    * Permanent full-time contract.
    * A full week off over Christmas! Plus 23 days of annual leave to use throughout the rest of the year, increasing to 28 days after 5 years of service.
    About you, the ideal Contracts Officer for Canterbury City Council:
    You experience:
    * You should have significant experience of end-to-end contract management within a similar field.
    Your Qualifications:
    * You should be a member of a relevant professional body such as CIBSE, RICS, IMechE, CIPHE or MIET.
    * You'll have successfully completed a suitable Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma in a subject that covers Construction Law and/or Contract Law.
    * A full driving licence is required for this job opportunity.
    You'll have a strong knowledge of:
    * Building services, contract management and specialist work areas
    * Performance monitoring systems
    * National policies and procedures relating to contracts delivered by local government
    * Commissioning processes and practices
    * Compliance regarding statutory landlord obligations
    * Technical understanding of building compliance (BS 7671, Gas Safety Regulations and Use, Control of Asbestos Regulations)
