How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to play a key role in promoting a positive, informed and preventative culture of health, safety, wellbeing and compliance across JRF.

Reporting to the Workplace Lead, you will act as JRF's Competent Person, providing expert advice, guidance and assurance to colleagues, managers and senior leaders across the organisation. Working closely with our external Health & Safety partner, you will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of our health and safety framework, ensuring compliance arrangements remain effective, proportionate and aligned with legislative requirements and organisational needs.

This is a varied and influential role where you will manage and develop JRF's Health & Safety Management System, oversee audits and inspections, support incident investigations, monitor performance and provide meaningful reporting and insight to leadership teams. You will also chair the Health & Safety Forum, helping to drive engagement, accountability and continuous improvement across the organisation.

In addition, you will support JRF's environmental compliance responsibilities, including regulatory submissions and sustainability initiatives, helping us further develop our environmental and ESG ambitions whilst ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. As part of a small and collaborative Workplace Team, you will contribute to wider workplace projects and support the delivery of high-quality workplace services when required.

    About you

You will be an experienced health and safety professional with a passion for creating safe, compliant and supportive workplaces. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

    * A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification.

    * Significant experience within a health and safety, compliance, governance, risk or assurance environment.

    * Expert knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice.

    * Experience developing and implementing compliance frameworks, policies, procedures and management systems.

    * Experience managing audits, inspections, investigations and risk assessments.

    * Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret legislation and translate requirements into practical and proportionate solutions.

    * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise, influence, challenge and support colleagues at all levels.

    * Experience producing management information, assurance reports, dashboards and performance indicators.

    * Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability practices, with the ability to support organisational objectives in this area.

Membership of IOSH, IIRSM or another relevant professional body, experience chairing health and safety forums and knowledge of fire safety, contractor management and workplace compliance requirements would be advantageous.

    How to apply

If you share our passion and this role sounds like you, then we’re looking forward to hearing from you.

Please submit your CV and supporting information via our online application platform.

The closing date for applications is Monday 28th September 2026

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 7th October 2026

We reserve the right to bring the closing date forward should enough quality applications be received prior to the current closing date.

    Additional Information

Applications are welcome from all, regardless of age, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, race, sex, sexual orientation, trans status or socioeconomic background.

We positively encourage applications from people from marginalised backgrounds, including but not limited to those with experience of living in poverty.

We are committed to being an anti-racist organisation and operate an anonymised recruitment process so that bias is eliminated from the shortlisting process.

In support of our approach to flexible working, we are happy to receive applications from those seeking full-time employment, as well as those who may want to share the role on a part-time basis. When making your application, please state whether you want to be considered for either full or part-time work and, if part-time, the number of hours per week you would be looking for.

At JRF we’re at our best when we’re continually building on trust, showing we care and making a difference – and hope others will do the same. So, for those roles which allow it, we’re developing a more blended approach to how and where you work. This means you can expect to work flexibly between the office and home (with an expectation of two days a week in your home office).

We are a Disability Confident Employer. This means that we are committed to the recruitment, progression and retention of disabled individuals. We shall also offer interviews to disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the job. If you have a disability, please tell us if you would like to be considered for an interview under the Disability Confident Scheme.

If you have any additional needs and need reasonable adjustments to be made to the interview process, please let us know
