How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Software Testing Engineer

    Location: Poole

    Working Hours: Monday - Friday, core working hours between 08:30am - 5pm

    Duration of Contract: 4 Months' initially, potential for extension

    Daily rate of pay: £350.00 - £450.00 dependent on experience and can be discussed.

    We're looking for a talented Software / Systems Test Engineer to join our client's pioneering engineering team developing cutting-edge communications technology for the rail industry.

    Working on innovative projects involving GSM-R, LTE, GPS connectivity and next-generation rail communication systems based on 4G and 5G technologies, you'll play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and performance of solutions that are transforming how people and goods move around the world.

    This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly respected engineering environment where innovation, collaboration and technical excellence meet.

    The Opportunity

    As a Test Engineer, you will take ownership of delivering testing activities across complex multidisciplinary projects. You'll be involved throughout the full testing lifecycle, from creating test specifications and test cases through to executing tests and supporting customer witnessed acceptance testing.

    Working closely with developers, engineers and project stakeholders, you'll help identify issues, drive quality improvements and ensure products meet both customer requirements and industry standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Deliver test engineering activities to agreed time, cost and quality targets.
    Design, develop and execute test procedures for system integration testing.
    Create and maintain test cases, test specifications and test scripts.
    Investigate defects and collaborate with development teams to identify root causes.
    Plan, coordinate and manage testing activities across project workstreams.
    Produce accurate estimates for testing activities and deliverables.
    Monitor and communicate test progress, metrics, results and risks.
    Support factory and customer acceptance testing phases.
    Ensure compliance with safety, quality and engineering assurance processes.
    Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practice testing methodologies.
    Maintain technical expertise through ongoing professional development.

    What We're Looking For

    Essential Experience

    Proven experience as a Software Test Engineer, Systems Test Engineer or Integration Test Engineer.
    Strong understanding of system integration testing within complex environments.
    Experience writing test cases, test specifications and test scripts.
    Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
    Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.
    Experience working within structured engineering or technical project environments.
    Ability to manage priorities and meet demanding project deadlines.

    Desirable Experience

    Experience within rail, telecommunications, transport or other engineering sectors.
    Knowledge of requirements management and ALM tools, particularly DOORS.
    Understanding of software testing methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
    ISEB / ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing.
    Experience supporting customer-facing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and System Acceptance Testing (SAT).
