How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Robot Systems Design | Autodesk Inventor | AutoCAD | Vault | 3D Modelling | Bespoke Automation

If you're starting your engineering career and want to do more than sit behind a screen producing drawings, this could be a brilliant place to begin.

At PACE Mechanical Handling, we design and build bespoke robotic handling and automation systems that help businesses move, pack, weigh and palletise products faster, smarter and more efficiently.

Founded in 1996, we're a successful family-run British engineering business combining mechanical engineering, fabrication, robotics and software to create complete automation solutions.

We're now looking for a Graduate CAD Design Engineer who loves mechanical design, enjoys solving problems and wants to develop in a practical engineering environment where you'll see your designs progress from CAD model to working machinery.

    Role at a Glance

    Graduate CAD Design Engineer
Spalding, Lincolnshire - Onsite 5 Days
    Starting at £25,000
    Full Time | Permanent
    Hours: 07:30 - 16:30

Industry: Robotics | Automation | Mechanical Handling | Manufacturing
Software: Autodesk Inventor | AutoCAD | Autodesk Vault
Engineering: 3D Modelling | Assemblies | Technical Drawings | Mechanical Design
Projects: Robotic Palletising | Conveyors | Material Handling | Bespoke Automation

Essential: Driving Licence | Unrestricted UK Right to Work

Design It. Develop It. See It Come to Life.

In its simplest form, this is robot systems design engineering.

Working alongside experienced mechanical, electrical, fabrication and robotics specialists, you'll help design bespoke automated machinery and handling systems, producing accurate 3D models, assemblies and engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

You'll turn engineering concepts into practical, manufacturable designs, maintaining accurate drawings, revisions and engineering data through Autodesk Vault. You'll also work closely with the technical teams building and assembling the machinery, giving you valuable exposure to how your designs perform in the real world.

What You'll Be Getting Involved In

    • Producing 3D models and mechanical assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
    • Creating and updating manufacturing and engineering drawings in AutoCAD
    • Managing drawings, revisions and engineering data through Autodesk Vault
    • Supporting the design of bespoke robotic and automation systems
    • Developing components and assemblies with manufacture and installation in mind
    • Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, fabrication and robotics specialists
    • Helping resolve design and manufacturing challenges during build and assembly
    • Supporting bills of materials and technical documentation
    • Identifying practical design improvements as projects develop

    About You

You're likely a recent Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Mechatronics or similarly relevant engineering graduate, or someone with equivalent technical training ready to begin their design engineering career.

You'll already have practical experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, together with experience or a good understanding of Autodesk Vault / CAD data management. This could have been developed through university, placements, internships, projects or early-career engineering experience.

More importantly, you'll enjoy figuring out how things work. You'll bring good mechanical understanding, attention to detail and a logical approach to problem-solving, along with the commitment and curiosity to keep developing your skills.

University projects, Formula Student, robotics projects, placements or other practical engineering experience will be particularly interesting where they demonstrate your CAD and mechanical design capability.

You'll need a driving licence, be comfortable working fully onsite and happy with PACE's 07:30 start.

    Why PACE?

PACE is built around practical engineering, teamwork and pride in doing things properly.

You'll join a supportive environment where people are encouraged to take ownership, share ideas and continuously improve. You'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while working with advanced robotic technology, including Yaskawa Motoman robots, across real customer automation projects.

You'll see the complete engineering journey from CAD design through fabrication, assembly and integration to a finished robotic system.

For someone looking to become a rounded mechanical design engineer rather than simply a CAD operator, it's an exciting place to start.

Your Background / Previous Experience May Include
Graduate CAD Engineer, Graduate Design Engineer, Graduate Mechanical Engineer, Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer, Junior CAD Engineer, Junior Design Engineer, CAD Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineering Graduate, Product Design Engineer, Mechatronics Graduate.

Ready to Build Your Engineering Career?

If you're excited by mechanical design, robotics and automation and want to see the things you design become reality, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now and tell us what you've designed.
