How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Carmichael UK are recruiting for an experienced Sub Agent to join a major infrastructure programme at Birmingham Airport, supporting the delivery of key civil engineering works within a live operational environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sub Agent with a strong background in civil engineering and reinforced concrete construction to join an established delivery team on a high-profile project. Whilst previous airfield experience would be advantageous, candidates from highways, rail, aviation, infrastructure and general civil engineering backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

    The Role

As Sub Agent, you will be responsible for managing the safe and successful delivery of light civils and concrete works packages, ensuring programme, quality and safety objectives are achieved. You will lead site teams, coordinate subcontractors and oversee engineering assurance processes while working closely with project management, client representatives and delivery stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day delivery of works to ensure safety, quality, programme and commercial objectives are achieved.

Lead site teams and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and specialist contractors.

Review and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), quality documentation and engineering records.

Oversee setting out activities and provide technical support to Site Engineers and delivery teams.

Ensure works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications and project requirements.

Monitor progress against programme and implement recovery measures where necessary.

Support short-term planning, sequencing and resource allocation.

Conduct site inspections, briefings and safety engagements.

Liaise effectively with client representatives, stakeholders and the wider project team.

Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.

    Requirements

    Essential

Previous experience working as a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or equivalent on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

Strong understanding and practical experience of reinforced concrete and light civil engineering works.

Experience managing engineering assurance and quality processes, including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

Experience managing subcontractors and site delivery teams.

    Valid CSCS Card.

    SMSTS qualification.

Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.

    Desirable

Previous experience working on airfield or airport projects.

    Working knowledge of NEC contracts.

    Temporary Works awareness or experience.

Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

    Personal Attributes

Strong leadership and people management skills.

Organised and proactive approach to project delivery.

Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and engineering excellence.

Safety-conscious and committed to best practice.

    Collaborative and professional team player.

Solutions-focused with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.

    What You'll Be Part Of

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a major infrastructure project at Birmingham Airport, working within a dynamic and highly regulated operational environment alongside experienced construction and engineering professionals.

If you have the skills, experience and drive to succeed in this role, we'd like to hear from you
