How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Control Systems Design Engineer required to join a well‑established, growing engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke automation and control systems for FMCG, food & beverage, packaging, filling and wider process industries.     The Control Systems Design Engineer Role
    You'll take ownership of electrical control panel and automation system design, producing high‑quality documentation and supporting internal teams and customers.

    Control Systems Design Engineer Key Responsibilities:
    Electrical schematics using CAD (AutoCAD Electrical, E‑Plan, SEE, SolidWorks Electrical)
    Designing control systems: mains protection, 24VDC circuits, PLCs, I/O, sensors, motors, drives, safety circuits
    Interpreting URS documents and asking the right technical questions
    Specifying/configuring motors & drives (Induction, VFD, Servo)
    Writing/testing basic PLC & HMI programmes
    Designing safety circuits
    Creating BOMs, FDS, technical specs and construction files
    Updating installation/operation manuals
    Component research & supplier liaison
    Testing, commissioning, troubleshooting & customer support
    Occasional UK site visits

    Control Systems Design Engineer Essential Requirements:
    Strong electrical/control systems background
    Electrical/Controls qualification (Apprenticeship, BTEC, ONC, HNC, HND, Degree)
    8+ years industrial control panel/system design experience
    1+ year PLC & HMI programming
    Highly proficient in electrical CAD software
    Able to design safety circuits and set up servo motors, drives & VFDs
    Good mechanical/electrical/pneumatic understanding
    Excellent accuracy, detail orientation and professionalism
    Warm, helpful personality - essential for the team culture

    Control Systems Design Engineer Desirable Requirements: Siemens/Allen‑Bradley PLC editing, robotics/camera systems, mechanical engineering knowledge, machine‑build experience, EX/CompEx/ATEX.
