How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Area Manager | Charity Retail | Multi-Site | London | £45,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits

Are you an experienced Area Manager or multi-site Retail Manager looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference?

We're working with a well-established charity that is going through an exciting period of change and growth across its retail operation. They are looking for an Area Manager to join the team and play a key role in improving commercial performance, developing people and raising standards across a group of shops.

This is a role for someone who understands retail first and foremost, but is also motivated by working in a purpose-led environment.

    The role

You'll work closely with Shop Managers across your area, taking ownership of their performance and supporting them to deliver stronger commercial and operational results.

    You'll be responsible for:

Leading, coaching and developing Shop Managers, creating clear expectations and accountability.

Driving sales, Gift Aid, profitability and overall contribution across the area.

Looking at performance data and quickly identifying commercial opportunities, from stock and pricing through to merchandising, space and customer experience.

Being highly visible across the shops and building strong relationships with your teams and volunteers.

Raising operational and visual standards, ensuring shops feel well-presented, cared for and commercially focused.

Supporting managers to take ownership of their own shops, giving them the tools and confidence to succeed rather than simply stepping in and doing it for them.

Building a strong volunteering culture and supporting managers to recruit, develop and retain volunteers.

Supporting recruitment and succession planning, with the opportunity to build a strong network and develop talent across the area.

Ensuring shops operate safely, effectively and in line with the required policies and standards.

Working closely with the Head of Retail to deliver the wider Retail Strategy and support the ongoing transformation of the retail operation.

    About you

We're looking for someone with solid retail experience and a strong understanding of commercial retail operations.

You'll ideally have experience managing multiple sites and developing managers, whether as an Area Manager, Regional Manager or in another senior multi-site role in the charity space or outlet.

    You'll be someone who:

Is commercially minded and naturally looks for opportunities to improve performance.

Understands the importance of strong visual and operational standards, even when working within existing budgets and limitations.

Is confident using data and KPIs to understand performance and hold people accountable.

Gets the best out of people through coaching, support and clear expectations.

Is comfortable having honest conversations and managing performance when needed.

Is hands-on and visible, happy to roll your sleeves up and get involved when required, while still ensuring your Shop Managers remain accountable for their own areas.

Can balance high expectations with a supportive, collaborative leadership style.

Is adaptable and comfortable working within an organisation that is on a journey of positive change.

Has the energy and resilience to make things happen in an environment where there is plenty to do and a real opportunity to make an impact.

    What's in it for you?

£45,000 salary + £150 per month car allowance

A newly created role with the opportunity to make a real impact

The chance to grow and develop as the retail operation continues to evolve

A role where you can use your retail experience to make a genuine difference and give back

The opportunity to work closely with the senior retail team and play a key part in shaping the future of the retail estate
