How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Technical Sales Engineer

Rail Engineering Sector | Derby Based | Engineering to Commercial Career Path

Are you an engineer who enjoys solving problems, working with customers, and seeing the commercial impact of your technical expertise?

We're recruiting on behalf of a successful and expanding engineering business that is investing heavily in growth across the UK rail sector. Due to increased demand and a strong pipeline of long-term projects, they are looking to appoint a Technical Sales Engineer to support customers with technically complex applications and help drive future business growth.

    Why This Role?

This is an excellent opportunity for either:

    * An experienced Technical Sales Engineer looking for a new challenge

    * An Applications Engineer looking to become more customer-facing

    * A mechanically biased engineer wanting to move into technical sales

You'll combine engineering knowledge with customer interaction, helping clients identify the right solutions while developing your commercial skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

    What's on Offer?

    * A genuine opportunity to develop your career within technical sales

    * Exposure to major rail projects and customers

    * Training and support from experienced engineering and commercial professionals

    * A varied role blending engineering, problem solving and customer interaction

    * Long-term progression opportunities within a growing engineering group

    * Competitive salary and benefits package

    The Role

Working closely with the Business Development Manager and internal engineering teams, you'll become a key technical contact for customers across the rail sector.

From interpreting drawings and specifications to developing quotations and identifying improvement opportunities, you'll play an important role in turning customer challenges into practical engineering solutions.

    About You

    You'll ideally have:

    * A mechanical engineering or technical background

    * Experience working with engineered products or assemblies

    * The ability to read and interpret technical drawings

    * Strong problem-solving skills and a practical mindset

    * Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage customers

    * Commercial awareness and an interest in developing customer relationships

    * Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

If you're technically minded, commercially curious, and looking for a role where you can develop both your engineering and customer-facing skills, we'd love to hear from you.
