How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    1. Why we are hiring

LaserTec is a fast growing specialist industrial laser cleaning contractor. We work across heritage, construction, marine, nuclear, defence and insurance reinstatement, on site and through equipment sales, hire, training and consulting.

Our jobs are getting bigger. We are now regularly delivering projects of one week or more as a subcontractor to tier-1 main contractors and developers, on live construction and restoration sites across the UK. Examples of the current pipeline include a multi-week facade cleaning package on a City of London commercial scheme under a Principal Contractor, and a heritage gas holder restoration for a major residential developer.

At the moment, planning and delivery of these jobs is carried across the founder, the Ops Manager and the Site Supervisor. That does not scale. We need one person who owns each longer job end to end: before, during and after.

    2. What the role does

The Project Manager owns every job over roughly one week in duration, from handover from Sales through to close-out and lessons learned.

    Before the job (planning)

    * Take the won proposal and turn it into a deliverable plan: programme, crew, kit, access, consumables, extraction, waste, power, welfare

    * Produce and own RAMS, permits, laser safety documentation and site-specific method statements, working with our Laser Safety Officer

    * Attend pre-start meetings with the client and Principal Contractor; manage inductions, CSCS and competency evidence for the crew

    * Confirm scope, sequencing, hold points, sign-off criteria and variation process in writing before we start

    * Set the budget baseline for hours, lasers and consumables against the proposal

    During the job (delivery)

    * Be the client's primary point of contact on site and off

    * Run daily coordination with the Site Supervisor; make sure the crew has what it needs and the programme is being hit

    * Track progress against the plan daily: m² done, hours used, lasers deployed, downtime and why

    * Spot and price variations early; agree them before the work is done, not after

    * Manage site relationships with the main contractor's team, other trades and the client's project manager

    * Escalate risks to Ops and the CEO with options, not just problems

After the job (review and improvement)

    * Close out commercially: final measure, variations agreed, application for payment supported with evidence

    * Run a structured job review: estimate vs actual on hours, rates and consumables; what worked, what did not

    * Feed findings back into our estimating assumptions, method library and future proposals

    * Produce a short case study and client reference where appropriate

    3. Who we are looking for

We are open on sector. Attitude and process matter more than having done laser cleaning before; nobody has, and we will train the technical side. But the person must be credible on a tier-1 construction site from day one.

    Must have

    * Three to seven years running site-based projects or work packages, ideally as a specialist subcontractor delivering into main contractors. Comfortable being the face of a small specialist company in front of a large client; calm, direct, professional under pressure

    * Working knowledge of CDM, RAMS, permits to work, and how a Principal Contractor's site runs

    * SMSTS (or SSSTS with a clear path to SMSTS) and a valid CSCS card

    * Demonstrable track record of commercial control: tracking hours and cost against budget, identifying and agreeing variations, supporting applications for payment

    * Organised and systematic by habit: writes things down, follows up, closes loops

    * Full UK driving licence and willingness to be on site in London and the rest of the UK, including some early starts, nights or weekends when the programme demands it

    Strongly preferred

    * Experience with heritage or listed building work, or with conservation officers and heritage consultants

    * Comfortable with structured tools and software: we run our own business operating system and expect the PM to live in and help us develop it, not in a notebook

    * Has worked in a small, growing company and understands that means wearing more than one hat

    Nice to have

    * First Aid at Work, Asbestos Awareness, IPAF, PASMA

    * Any laser safety, radiation or hazardous materials background

    * Experience in nuclear, defence or marine environments, or security clearance

    We are not looking for

A pure office-based PM who has not run work on site or someone from a very large contractor who is used to a full support team and has not done the paperwork themselves or a site manager who is strong operationally but has never owned a budget or a client relationship or anyone who needs a fixed 9 to 5 in Wokingham; HQ is in Wokingham but the job goes where the work is and will be in the office irregularly

    4. The profile in one paragraph

A mid-career site or project manager, who has spent enough time on tier-1 sites to know how they work and enough time in a small firm to know how to get things done without a department behind them. Commercially sharp, tidy on paperwork, good with clients, and excited by the idea of helping to build the delivery function of a growing technology-led contractor rather than just slotting into one that already exists.

    5. What we offer

    * Genuine ownership: this is the first dedicated PM role in the business, and the person will shape how we deliver

    * A distinctive technology and a growing order book of high-profile, critical environment and mega-projects. Full training in laser cleaning technology and laser safety will be provided.

    * Direct access to the founder and a clear path to a Head of Delivery or Operations role as the business grows.
