How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of Built Environment

    Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
    Salary: £46,803 – £53,919 per annum + market forces payment of up to £5,781 pro rata
    Hours: 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
    Contract: Permanent
    Working pattern: On-site, with travel
    Teaching: Includes some teaching hours

    Are you an experienced Built Environment professional and educational leader looking for your next challenge?

    We are delighted to be supporting a leading further education provider in Suffolk with the appointment of a Head of Built Environment to join its Engineering, Construction and Building Technology Directorate.

    This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager with a strong background in Built Environment education to take strategic and operational responsibility for a broad range of programmes, including T Levels, apprenticeships and higher-level qualifications.

    You’ll play a key role in shaping the curriculum, developing staff, strengthening employer relationships and ensuring learners receive an outstanding experience and achieve positive outcomes.

    The Role

    As Head of Built Environment, you will:

    * Lead and develop the Built Environment curriculum at Level 3 and above

    * Oversee T Levels, vocational apprenticeships, higher technical qualifications and degree-level programmes

    * Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team, including recruitment, performance management, lesson observations and staff development

    * Take responsibility for learner and apprentice progress, achievement, attendance and overall experience

    * Develop strong and sustainable relationships with employers, industry partners and external stakeholders

    * Identify opportunities to develop new curriculum provision in response to industry and employer needs

    * Work closely with higher education partners and awarding organisations

    * Monitor curriculum performance, using data and insight to identify improvements and drive positive outcomes

    * Lead curriculum planning, timetabling, assessment and quality improvement activity

    * Contribute to self-assessment and quality improvement processes

    * Manage relevant budgets and commercial activity within the curriculum area

    * Support promotional activities including open events, school engagement and industry events

    * Ensure effective safeguarding, health & safety and compliance across the area

    * Contribute to the wider management and strategic direction of the Directorate

    * Undertake some teaching across relevant Built Environment programmes

    About You

    We’re looking for an inspirational and forward-thinking leader who combines strong industry knowledge with excellent educational and people-management skills.

    You will ideally have:

    * Experience of Built Environment education, training or professional practice

    * Experience of curriculum management and leading high-performing teams

    * Experience of teaching, training, assessing, mentoring and/or coaching

    * Experience working with T Levels, apprenticeships and/or degree-level provision

    * A strong understanding of teaching, learning and assessment

    * Knowledge of current Built Environment industry standards, trends and technologies

    * Experience managing learner performance, including attendance, progress and achievement

    * Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

    * Strong organisational, planning and time-management abilities

    * Experience of using data to inform decision-making and drive improvement

    * Experience of budget and change management

    * A proactive, solution-focused approach with the ability to make effective decisions

    Qualifications

    You will be expected to hold:

    A relevant degree or professional qualification

    A recognised Level 5 teaching qualification

    Maths and English to Level 2 (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent)

    Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA or ICE would be advantageous.

    Additional qualifications in management, coaching, assessing or quality assurance would also be beneficial.
