How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Research Engineer / Senior Engineer

    Major Hazards Research & Development

    When the consequences are significant and confidence in critical decisions matters, industry needs evidence.

    Our engineers, scientists, and technical specialists design, build, and operate unique large-scale experimental facilities that help industry better understand risk, improve resilience, and enhance safety. From hydrogen and alternative fuels to high-pressure gas releases, fire and explosion hazards, pipeline integrity, and critical infrastructure protection, the work undertaken here influences engineering practice, supports major investment decisions, and helps improve safety worldwide.

    Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit both Engineers and Senior Engineers to join our Major Hazards Research & Development team.

    While many engineering careers focus on applying existing knowledge, this role offers the opportunity to help create it.

    Our teams develop bespoke experimental facilities and deliver world-leading research programmes designed to answer questions that cannot be resolved through standards, guidance documents, modelling, or simulation alone. We generate the evidence that enables organisations to make informed decisions with confidence.

    Our work addresses some of the most significant challenges facing the energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors. Projects may involve:

    * Hydrogen and alternative fuel safety

    * High-pressure gas release research

    * Full-scale fire and explosion testing

    * Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

    * Industrial process safety

    * Emerging energy technologies

    * Energy security and infrastructure protection

    * Defence and national resilience programmes

    You will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept development and engineering design through construction, commissioning, testing, and operational delivery.

    No two projects are the same, and many involve engineering challenges that have never before been addressed at full scale.

    Engineer

    For engineers in the early stages of their careers, this role offers an exceptional opportunity to accelerate professional development within a highly capable multidisciplinary team.

    Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you will gain hands-on experience across:

    * Gas and pressure systems

    * Experimental facility design

    * Research and testing programmes

    You will be encouraged to take ownership of your work, broaden your technical knowledge, and develop the skills required to build a successful and rewarding engineering career.

    Senior Engineer

    For experienced professionals, the Senior Engineer position provides the opportunity to take a leading role in technical delivery and project execution.

    In addition to leading engineering activities, you will:

    * Provide technical leadership and mentoring

    * Engage directly with clients and stakeholders

    * Help shape future research and testing programmes

    * Support the development of new technical capabilities

    * Contribute to business growth and strategic initiatives

    This is an opportunity to influence major research and testing programmes while working alongside recognised experts in their fields.

    Why Apply

    This is an opportunity to work on unique facilities, pioneering research programmes, and some of the most challenging engineering problems facing industry today.

    Here, you will do more than apply engineering knowledge. You will help create it, shaping the evidence that improves safety, resilience, and performance across industries worldwide
