How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Food Technology Teacher – KS3 & KS4

    Location: Hertfordshire

    Salary: £35,602–£54,328 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications

    Contract: Full-time, fixed-term until July 2027

    Start date: 28 September 2026

    Teach Now is recruiting a creative, committed Food Technology Teacher to join a supportive specialist secondary school in Hertfordshire.

    Through practical cooking and engaging theory lessons, you will help pupils develop confidence, independence and valuable life skills. Small classes offer the opportunity to personalise learning and build strong relationships with pupils.

    About the school

    This specialist school supports boys aged 11–16 with a range of learning, social, emotional and mental health needs. Its structured, nurturing approach combines academic and practical learning to help pupils prepare for further education, employment and adult life.

    You will teach Food Technology across KS3 and KS4, including food preparation, nutrition, healthy eating and Food and Cookery Skills. The timetable includes approximately 22 subject lessons out of 33 weekly periods, alongside general classroom cover as required.

    Your responsibilities

    • Plan and deliver practical and theory-based Food Technology lessons across KS3 and KS4.

    • Develop pupils cooking techniques, food knowledge and safe working habits.

    • Adapt activities to individual learning needs, building confidence through achievable challenges.

    • Maintain a safe, organised practical classroom, with clear routines for hygiene and equipment use.

    • Assess progress and provide constructive feedback.

    • Support positive behaviour and pupils social and emotional development.

    • Work collaboratively with colleagues and provide general classroom cover when required.
    What were looking for

    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching Food Technology, Food and Nutrition or a related subject.

    • Strong practical subject knowledge and confidence teaching KS3 and KS4.

    • A patient, resilient approach with effective classroom and behaviour management.

    • The ability to make learning accessible for pupils with varied needs.

    • A commitment to inclusive education and supporting pupil wellbeing.
    Experience in a SEND or SEMH setting is advantageous. Mainstream teachers keen to develop their practice in specialist education are also encouraged to apply.
