How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Are you a mechanically biased Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Mechanical Engineer who enjoys fault finding, fixing machinery and working directly with customers?

    We’re recruiting for a well-established and highly successful machinery manufacturer business looking to add another Field Service Engineer to its experienced UK service team.

    This role would suit someone who is approximately 80% mechanical / 20% electrical – you don’t need to be an electrical expert or a PLC programmer. What’s much more important is that you’re mechanically strong, practical, confident working on industrial machinery and able to logically diagnose and resolve faults.

    What will you be doing?

    Working from home and covering an established territory across the East of England, you’ll be responsible for looking after customers and their machinery, including:

    * Planned preventative maintenance and servicing

    * Mechanical fault finding and breakdown repairs

    * Diagnosing problems and getting machinery back up and running

    * Basic electrical fault finding

    * Repairing, testing and maintaining industrial equipment

    * Assisting with the installation of new machinery

    * Providing customers with basic equipment training

    * Monitoring machine performance and identifying potential issues

    * Building strong relationships with customers across your territory

    You’ll have your own established service area, with occasional cover for neighbouring territories during holidays or sickness.

    What are we looking for?

    We’re particularly interested in hearing from engineers who have a strong mechanical background and are comfortable around industrial machinery.

    You could currently be working as a:

    Field Service Engineer | Mechanical Engineer | Maintenance Engineer | Service Technician | Mechanical Fitter | Maintenance Technician | Machinery Engineer

    Ideally, you’ll have:

    * A mechanical/electrical engineering qualification such as C&G, ONC, NVQ or equivalent

    * Strong mechanical engineering skills

    * Some basic electrical knowledge and fault-finding ability

    * Experience servicing, repairing or maintaining industrial machinery

    * A practical, hands-on approach to engineering

    * Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills

    * The confidence to work independently in the field

    * Good customer-facing and communication skills

    Experience with packaging, production, manufacturing, conveyors, automation or materials-handling machinery would be useful, but isn't essential.

    If you’re mechanically strong and have the right engineering foundations, full training on the company's machinery will be provided.

    The Company

    You’ll be joining an established, profitable and highly respected business with decades of experience in the equipment industry.

    You’ll also be joining an established service operation with a team of experienced Field Service Engineers around you.

    Package

    £35,000 basic salary
    Commission
    Company car
    Private healthcare
    Pension
    Life assurance
    25 days' holiday + bank holidays
    Mobile phone
    Full product training

    Territory

    This is a home-based field role covering the East of England, including areas across:

    Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Coventry and Greater/North London.

    If you’re a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys being out in the field, solving problems and working on machinery rather than being stuck in the same factory every day, we’d love to hear from you
