How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About Tradewind Recruitment

At Tradewind, we specialise in connecting skilled education professionals with schools across the UK.

With over 240 5-star Google reviews from our candidates, past and present, we pride ourselves on providing a professional and responsive service.

Our experienced consultants support you throughout registration and placement, helping you find opportunities that match your experience, location and career plans.

    The Opportunity

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise secondary school classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain focused and learning continues.

You will generally follow pre-prepared lesson plans, communicate instructions clearly and manage classroom behaviour effectively.

This role is particularly suited to Teaching Assistants looking to level up and gain experience leading a classroom independently.

You do not need to be a qualified teacher or subject specialist. Your existing experience working with secondary students, combined with strong behaviour management and communication skills, can provide an excellent foundation for Cover Supervisor work.

Supervising secondary school classes in the absence of the teacher.
Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials and following instructions.
Managing classroom behaviour firmly, fairly and consistently.
Maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Supporting students with their learning where appropriate.
Monitoring student engagement and ensuring work is completed.
Adapting to different subjects, year groups and school environments.
Communicating effectively with teaching staff and school leaders.
Following school safeguarding and behaviour policies.

    What We Offer

Competitive pay: Rates of £115-£135 per day, with our consultants always seeking the best available rate.

Career progression: An opportunity to move from Teaching Assistant into Cover Supervisor work and develop your classroom leadership experience.

Flexibility: Day-to-day and longer-term opportunities to suit your availability.

Variety: Experience different secondary schools and classroom environments across Bristol.

Professional development: Access to over 2,500 free CPD courses, webinars and resources through the National College.
