How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Highways and Transportation Principal Engineer

    We are recruiting for an experienced Highways and Transportation Principal Engineer to join a growing civil and environmental engineering consultancy with an expanding portfolio of highways and transportation projects.

    This is a senior position offering responsibility for technical delivery, project management, client relationships and the development of junior engineers. The successful Highways and Transportation Principal Engineer will have the opportunity to take a leading role within the team while working across a varied pipeline of public and private sector projects.

    Highways and Transportation Principal Engineer Role

    As a Highways and Transportation Principal Engineer, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery and technical quality of multiple projects, working closely with clients, stakeholders and the wider engineering team.

    Responsibilities will include:

    Leading the delivery of highways and transportation projects
    Managing multiple projects simultaneously
    Providing technical direction and reviewing engineering outputs
    Managing project programmes, budgets and resources
    Leading technical reviews, approvals and project submissions
    Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
    Liaising with clients and key project stakeholders
    Supporting the development of the project pipeline
    Ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
    Undertaking responsibilities in accordance with CDM 2015
    Mentoring and supporting junior engineers
    Maintaining high technical and professional standards across project deliveryHighways and Transportation Principal Engineer Requirements

    The successful Highways and Transportation Principal Engineer will need significant experience within highways and transportation engineering, together with the technical ability and leadership skills required to manage projects and support other members of the team.

    You will ideally have:

    At least 6 years' experience within highways and transportation projects
    Chartered Engineer status
    Strong technical highways and transportation knowledge
    Proven experience leading and delivering engineering projects
    Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
    Experience managing project budgets, programmes and deadlines
    Strong client and stakeholder management skills
    Experience reviewing and approving technical work
    Knowledge of CDM 2015 responsibilities
    Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    Strong organisational and problem-solving ability
