About the role
RLO Tankers is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Marine Purchaser to join our growing team in London.
This is an opportunity to take real ownership of the procurement function within a growing shipping business. We are not looking for someone who simply processes purchase orders. We are looking for someone who understands marine procurement, is confident dealing with suppliers and vessel requirements, and wants to help us build, improve and develop the way procurement is managed across the fleet. You will work closely with Operations, Technical Management, Finance, vessels and third-party management companies, while having a high level of independence and responsibility for your own area.
What you'll be responsible for
You'll take ownership of the marine procurement function across the fleet, including:
- End-to-end vessel procurement & purchasing
- Supplier sourcing, relationship building, negotiation & cost control
- Dry dock procurement planning & preparation
- Logistics, budgets, systems & process development
The role will also involve developing a strong international supplier network, coordinating vessel logistics, supporting inventory and procurement planning, and working closely with Finance and Operations on budgets, cost control and purchasing analysis.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware, proactive and comfortable taking ownership. You'll need to manage multiple priorities and communicate confidently with vessels, suppliers and colleagues across different functions and 3rd party management companies.
Previous marine/shipping procurement experience is important, together with a good understanding of vessel purchasing, suppliers, logistics and the operational pressures involved in getting equipment and spares to vessels on time.
Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys improving things. We're a relatively small, fast-moving team, so this role will suit someone who is comfortable working independently, making recommendations and helping create processes rather than simply following established ones and working under someone’s supervision.
Why join RLO Tankers?
You'll be joining at a point where the business and fleet are growing and you'll have the opportunity to take ownership, influence how we work and help build something better.
We value people who are practical, collaborative, and willing to get involved - and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with the company rather than simply fill a purchasing seat.
If you're looking for a perfectly set role where everything has already been decided and placed in a box, this probably isn't it. If you want to come in, get involved and help us build we'd love to hear from you.
