How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you a Controls Engineer looking for genuine project ownership, international travel and the opportunity to work on highly specialised automated machinery?

This is an opportunity to join a market-leading manufacturer of bespoke automation equipment, supplying complex machinery to customers worldwide.

You'll be part of a small, highly skilled engineering team responsible for developing PLC, HMI and motion control systems for both new machine builds and existing equipment upgrades. You'll have genuine involvement across the full project life cycle – from programming and testing through to customer commissioning and support.

The role offers regular international travel, typically 4-5 trips per year lasting 2-3 weeks, providing the opportunity to commission equipment, solve technical challenges and work directly with customers across North and South America.

    Controls Engineer - The Role:

PLC, HMI and motion control programming using Rockwell Logix and Studio 5000 platforms
Development and modification of software for bespoke automated machinery
Configuration of distributed control systems and industrial networks
Integration of vision inspection systems (Cognex or similar)
Support prototype development, machine build, testing and commissioning activities
Ensure machine safety systems comply with relevant international standards
Prepare technical documentation for manufacturing, testing and customer support
Provide technical support and commissioning assistance at customer sites worldwide
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and service engineering teams throughout project delivery
     Controls Engineer - The Person:

Experience programming PLC and HMI systems - ideally Rockwell but happy to train
    Motion control experience
Background within automation, special purpose machinery, manufacturing, robotics or related industries
Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex engineering issues
Willingness to travel internationally several times per year
This is an excellent opportunity to join a business investing heavily in growth, technology and engineering capability, where your work will directly influence projects delivered to major international customers.

Located in Gloucestershire, this role would be commutable from Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Stonehouse, Dursley, Worcester, Malvern, Evesham, Ledbury, Cirencester, Chepstow and Swindon.
