How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Principal Electrical Engineer. You’ll be acting as the shipyard technical authority and discipline lead for electrical, automation, control, navigation/communication and integration-related systems across assigned vessel projects.

    What will you be doing?

Own electrical engineering strategy, standards, governance, resourcing and performance for the shipyard electrical function.
Review, challenge and approve outsourced electrical designs for compliance, safety, buildability, maintainability, material availability and production readiness.
Lead electrical input to design gate, maturity, constructability and production readiness reviews prior to release to build.
Ensure compliance with Classification Society rules, Flag State, SOLAS, IMO, IEC/marine electrical standards, customer specs and shipyard QA procedures.
Serve as primary technical interface with Class, Flag, client reps, design houses and major vendors on electrical/automation matters.
Lead review of SLDs, load balance, short‑circuit/coordination studies, cable schedules/routing, penetrations/MCTs, equipment layouts, schematics, terminations and interface control documents.
A couple of things you should know:

Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical, Marine Electrical or related discipline.
Significant senior experience in shipyard/marine new‑build, retrofit, offshore, naval, ferry, commercial vessel or complex industrial build environments.
Strong practical knowledge of marine electrical systems: generation, main/emergency distribution, switchboards, transformers, UPS, batteries, shore supply, propulsion drives, motors, automation, PMS, alarm/monitoring, nav/comms and safety‑critical systems.
Proven experience supporting vessel build, electrical installation, integration, testing, commissioning, harbour/sea trials and delivery.
Working knowledge of marine regulatory frameworks: Class rules, Flag State, SOLAS, IMO and relevant IEC/marine electrical standards.
Able to review/interpret electrical schematics, SLDs, load studies, cable schedules, termination drawings, equipment layouts, system diagrams, specs and vendor docs.
During an interview, you may be asked about:

Your experience managing outsourced design houses, vendor deliverables, TQs, design reviews and Class/Flag comments through to close‑
Your experience in supporting procurement with technical specs, vendor doc review, bid evaluation, long‑lead identification, FAT requirements and technical acceptance of major electrical equipment.
