How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Job Title: Painting & Decorating Tutor

    Location: HMP (Brixton, Greater London)

Salary: From £30,000 + £5,000 London Weighting per annum

    Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

    The Opportunity

Are you an experienced painter and decorator looking to step off the site and use your trade skills to build better futures? Do you want to play a key role in reducing reoffending by giving young adults and adult learners in custody the practical trade skills, safety habits, and confidence needed for post-release employment?

We are recruiting for a practical, dedicated Painting & Decorating Tutor to join the vocational education team on-site at HMP Feltham. In this hands-on role, you will deliver practical P&D training and qualifications to small groups of prison-based learners, developing their technical craftsmanship, surface preparation skills, and workplace discipline to help them reach their full potential.

    What You Will Be Doing

Vocational Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging Painting & Decorating training modules, combining practical workshop sessions with essential trade theory and surface preparation techniques.

Individual Training Plans: Ensure tailored training plans are established for every learner, providing ongoing advice, guidance, and constructive feedback throughout their learning journey.

Workplace Standards & Security: Instill strict industry standards-including health & safety, surface hygiene, tool control, and workshop cleanliness-within a secure learning environment.

Progress Tracking: Assess learner work, track practical achievements, and maintain detailed course documentation in line with awarding body guidelines.

Rehabilitation Focus: Build learner self-esteem, work-readiness, and motivation, aligning training directly with employment opportunities in the commercial and residential decorating sectors.

    What We Are Looking For

Trade Qualifications: A Level 2 (or higher) vocational qualification in Painting & Decorating or a related construction trade.

Vocational Expertise: Substantial hands-on industry experience as an expert painter, decorator, or finishing specialist.

Training Experience: Proven experience delivering vocational or on-the-job trade training, with the ability to use varied delivery methods to engage learners with diverse needs.

Teaching Qualifications: A teaching or assessing qualification is desirable. No teaching qualification? No problem! Full support and funding will be provided to help you achieve the required qualifications during your probationary period.
