How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Chess Coach / Assistant Chess Coach
Flexible Part-Time Hours | School Term Time | Rochester, Tonbridge, Maidstone & Bromley, SE London
Can you watch a game of chess and quickly understand what each player is trying to do? Could you spot where a young player is going wrong and explain, in simple terms, how they could improve?
LearnChess Academy is looking for people with genuine chess knowledge to help children develop their game across Kent and South East London.
Ideally, you will be a competent chess player, possibly rated; please explain your chess experience as a player, and if you have had the opportunity to coach or teach.
    The role
This is more than teaching children how the pieces move.
As a Chess Coach, you’ll observe games, recognise mistakes and opportunities, understand a student's thinking and help them develop better decision-making, tactics and overall game awareness.
We are looking for experienced Chess Coaches and Lead Coaches, but we also welcome applications from developing players interested in Assistant Coach/Coach Support positions.
    The person
For our coaching positions, you should:
    * Have a strong practical understanding of chess, ideally around 1000+ ELO or equivalent playing ability
    * Be able to analyse a game and recognise tactical and positional mistakes
    * Understand why a move is strong or weak and explain this clearly to a young player
    * Be confident working with children of different ages and chess abilities
    * Create enjoyable, structured and engaging sessions
    * Have a full UK driving licence and be able to travel to local schools and venues
    * Hold a current First Aid qualification or be willing to complete training
Still developing your chess knowledge? If you have a good understanding of the game but aren't ready to lead sessions independently, we'd still like to hear from you about Assistant Coach/Coach Support opportunities.
    The Benefits
    * Flexible hours during school terms
    * Comprehensive coaching training and ongoing support
    * Online teaching resources and lesson materials
    * Branded uniform and coaching equipment
    * Opportunities for additional sessions and special events
    What’s next
If you understand chess beyond simply moving the pieces and would enjoy helping young players understand why moves work, we'd love to hear from you.
An Enhanced DBS check, including the Children's Barred List, is required. LearnChess Academy will arrange subsequent renewals
