How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Alternative Provision Tutor - Wokingham

    Make a Lasting Difference Outside the Traditional Classroom

    Quantum Scholars are recruiting experienced and compassionate Alternative Provision Tutors to support young people who are currently unable to access mainstream education across Wokingham.

    This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education and require a patient, consistent and personalised approach to help them re-engage with learning, rebuild confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

    You will be supporting students with a range of additional needs, including SEND and SEMH, and may work with pupils who present with:

    ADHD
    Autism
    Anxiety
    EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)
    Medical needs
    Behavioural and emotional needs
    Other complex learning and social needsIf you are passionate about supporting young people, building positive relationships and helping pupils overcome barriers to education, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

    The Role

    As an Alternative Provision Tutor, you will provide tailored educational support to pupils within a specialist setting, adapting your approach to meet individual learning needs and helping students develop the confidence and skills needed to make progress.

    The role may involve supporting pupils across a range of subjects and providing both academic and pastoral support, depending on the individual needs of the young person.

    You will play an important role in creating a positive learning environment where pupils feel supported, understood and encouraged to succeed.

    Responsibilities

    Deliver engaging and personalised tuition tailored to individual needs and abilities
    Support pupils who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs
    Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with young people
    Adapt learning and teaching approaches to suit different abilities, needs and learning styles
    Support pupils to re-engage with education and develop confidence in their abilities
    Encourage positive behaviour, independence and emotional wellbeing
    Monitor progress and provide feedback where appropriate
    Work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to support individual pupils
    Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment

    Requirements

    Previous experience working as a Teacher, Tutor, Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, HLTA, SEND Practitioner or within Alternative Provision
    Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
    A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach
    Strong ability to build rapport with vulnerable or disengaged young people
    Confidence adapting learning to meet individual needs
    Resilience and a genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education
    Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
    Full UK driving licence and access to transport is desirable
