How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR – SOUTH & CENTRAL

Are you a commercially driven Business Development leader looking for an opportunity to make a real impact?

Perhaps you're currently a Business Development Manager, Business Development Director, Bid Director, Bid Manager or senior Project Manager with strong industry connections and a proven ability to identify, shape and secure major infrastructure opportunities.

If you're ready to take ownership of a significant growth strategy and build something substantial, this could be the opportunity for you.

I am currently recruiting for a Business Development Director to join a well-established and ambitious infrastructure business covering the South & Central region.

This is a pivotal role within the business, offering the opportunity to help accelerate regional growth while strengthening an established presence within Rail and driving strategic expansion into complementary infrastructure sectors.

    What will you be doing?

Building and maintaining a strong, structured pipeline across both short- and long-term horizons
Developing strategic opportunities across sectors including Rail, Water, Energy, Defence and Aviation
Building and maintaining senior-level client relationships
Identifying key stakeholders and understanding procurement and buying decisions
Working closely with Operational, Pre-Contract and Commercial teams to ensure opportunities are strategically aligned and deliverable
Presenting pipeline activity, market intelligence and strategic opportunities at a senior level
Representing the business at industry forums, conferences and sector events
Developing key accounts and securing repeat business
Identifying opportunities across both Tier 1 and Tier 2 contracting environments
Providing clear visibility of market trends, investment programmes and future procurement opportunities

    What am I looking for?

Proven experience developing, managing and maintaining a large-scale strategic opportunity pipeline
A successful background in Business Development, Business Development Management, Business Development Director or a similar senior commercial role
Strong understanding of infrastructure investment within one or more of the following sectors: Water, Energy, Defence and Aviation
Experience working with both public and private sector clients
Existing relationships and a strong network within relevant industry sectors
Excellent commercial awareness, communication, negotiation and presentation skills
The ability to build credibility and maintain strong senior-level relationships
Experience identifying, qualifying and shaping significant opportunities
Engineering experience or accreditation would be advantageous, although not essential
Flexibility to travel across the region and nationally when required
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in a major regional growth strategy and genuinely influence the future direction of a business.
