How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Pre-Construction Planner | Main Contractor | Hertfordshire | £60,000–£70,000 + Car or Car Allowance + Benefits

    Tender Programmes | £1m–£5m Projects | Regional Main Contractor | Pre-Construction Focus

    An established and highly regarded regional main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Pre-Construction Planner to join its successful Pre-Construction and Estimating team in Hertfordshire.

    The business delivers a diverse portfolio of new-build and refurbishment projects across London and the Home Counties, working across education, healthcare, commercial, residential, heritage and community sectors.

    Typical project values range from approximately £1 million to £5 million, with larger schemes extending towards £10 million.

    This is a genuine tender and pre-construction planning opportunity rather than a predominantly site-based project planning role. The successful candidate will become involved at the earliest stages of a project, helping shape tender strategy through detailed programmes, construction methodology, logistics, phasing and buildability.

    The company offers the stability and personal working environment of an established regional contractor, together with a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming work, experienced management and genuine long-term career prospects.

    The Opportunity

    As Pre-Construction Planner, you will work closely with the wider Pre-Construction, Estimating, Commercial and Operational teams, supporting tenders from initial enquiry through to successful handover.

    The focus will be on producing clear, realistic and commercially credible tender programmes that demonstrate how projects can be successfully delivered.

    Your role will include:

    * Producing detailed tender and pre-construction programmes

    * Developing construction methodology and sequencing

    * Preparing logistics plans and phasing strategies

    * Producing and contributing to tender method statements

    * Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information

    * Assessing buildability, site constraints and key project risks

    * Developing design and procurement programmes

    * Liaising with Estimators, Commercial teams and Operational colleagues

    * Contributing to tender interviews and presentations where required

    * Supporting successful project handover into the delivery team

    About You

    We are looking for an experienced Pre-Construction Planner with a background working for a regional or medium-sized UK main contractor.

    You should have:

    * Proven tender or pre-construction planning experience

    * Experience producing tender programmes, logistics plans and method statements

    * A strong understanding of building construction, sequencing and methodology

    * Experience across new-build and refurbishment projects

    * Strong working knowledge of Asta Powerproject

    * A good understanding of design coordination, procurement and buildability

    * Experience working on projects broadly within the £1m–£10m range

    * Strong communication and presentation skills

    * The ability to work independently while contributing to a close-knit team

    The strongest fit is likely to come from someone accustomed to the environment of a regional or medium-sized main contractor, where planners are closely involved with the wider tender team and take a hands-on approach to winning and planning projects.

    Candidates whose experience has been centred primarily around live-project planning on very large Tier 1 schemes may find this role less aligned to their background.

    What’s on Offer?

    * £60,000–£70,000 basic salary

    * Company car or car allowance

    * Private healthcare

    * Company pension

    * Additional benefits package

    * Varied portfolio of new-build and refurbishment projects

    * Strong pipeline of secured and upcoming work

    * Established and supportive Pre-Construction team

    * Stable, collaborative regional contractor environment

    * Genuine long-term career development opportunity

    The final package will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and background.

    Interested?

    If you are an experienced Pre-Construction Planner with relevant main-contractor tender planning experience and would like to explore this opportunity, please apply with an up-to-date CV or contact Rob Green at David Leslie Ltd for a confidential and informal discussion.
