How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SEND/SEMH Tutor - Somerset

    Location: Somerset
    Phase: Secondary / SEND / SEMH
    Working Arrangement: In-person

    Quantum Scholars is looking for a patient, supportive and experienced Alternative Provision Tutor to work with children and young people across Somerset. This is an in-person tutoring opportunity and is not an online role.

    The role involves providing personalised educational support to learners who are currently unable to access mainstream education or who require a more flexible and individualised approach to learning.

    As an Alternative Provision Tutor, you will play an important role in helping young people re-engage with education, rebuild confidence and develop the skills they need to make positive academic and personal progress.

    The successful tutor will be able to build strong, trusting relationships with learners and create a calm, supportive learning environment. You should be confident adapting your approach to suit individual abilities, needs, interests and levels of engagement.

    Experience working with young people with SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural challenges or those who have experienced difficulties within mainstream education would be particularly beneficial.

    The Role May Involve

    Delivering personalised one-to-one or small-group tuition
    Supporting learners across relevant curriculum subjects, depending on your experience
    Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities
    Adapting teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and abilities
    Supporting learners who may be disengaged from education or have experienced barriers to learning
    Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with young people
    Creating a calm and structured environment where learners feel safe and supported
    Helping learners develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards education
    Supporting learners to develop effective learning and study skills
    Encouraging young people to re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
    Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
    Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
    Maintaining clear and professional communication
    Following safeguarding procedures at all times

    Essential Requirements

    Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting children and young people
    Experience working with learners who have SEND and/or SEMH needs
    Experience supporting young people who have struggled to engage with mainstream education is desirable
    Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised educational support
    The ability to plan and deliver engaging, individualised learning
    Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
    A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
    The ability to adapt teaching and learning strategies to meet individual needs
    Confidence working independently with young people on a one-to-one basis
    A genuine commitment to helping learners overcome barriers to education and achieve their potential
    A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
    Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, where required
    Satisfactory professional references
