How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Manual Machinist 
    Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum, depending on experience
    Job Type: Permanent
    Location: Oakham

    An established engineering business is looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to join its workshop team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with strong experience in manual milling and centre lathe work, particularly someone who enjoys producing quality one-off and small-batch components to drawing and specification.

    The RoleYou will be responsible for setting and operating manual milling machines and centre lathes to produce accurate components across a range of engineering applications.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    Setting and operating manual milling machines to produce components from engineering drawings.
    Setting and operating manual centre lathes for turning, facing, boring, threading and general machining operations.
    Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
    Selecting appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds for different materials and machining operations.
    Using micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment to ensure accuracy.
    Producing one-off and small-batch components to required tolerances.
    Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets quality and drawing requirements.
    Carrying out general workshop duties, including basic machine maintenance, tool care and housekeeping.
    Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment.About YouThe successful candidate will have:

    Proven experience as a Manual Machinist.
    Strong practical experience with both manual milling and manual centre lathes.
    The ability to work confidently and independently from engineering drawings.
    Good knowledge of machining techniques, tooling and materials.
    Experience using precision measuring equipment.
    A strong eye for detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
    The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a workshop team.
