Consultant Psychiatrist

Evolve Staffing Ltd. is leading a major medical recruitment search to secure an exceptionally qualified Consultant Psychiatrist for an NHS Trust mental health service in Portsmouth. This senior clinical post requires an experienced psychiatric medical practitioner capable of delivering high-quality, evidence-based diagnostic assessments, complex risk management formulations, and holistic treatment plans for adult service users suffering from severe and enduring mental illnesses. The appointed doctor will work alongside a multidisciplinary care team within an established psychiatric service, providing senior medical oversight across inpatient and community mental health pathways across the coastal region of Portsmouth.

Core Clinical Responsibilities:

Provide senior clinical leadership and overarching medical direction for adult psychiatric patients presenting with acute mental health crises, mood disorders, psychosis, and complex psychiatric comorbidities.

*

Exercise statutory responsibilities as a designated Approved Clinician (AC) and Section 12(2) registered doctor under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

*

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental state examinations (MSE), physical health assessments, and risk formulations.

*

Lead weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinical reviews, Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings, and discharge planning conferences.

*

Formulate, implement, and monitor evidence-based psychotropic prescribing practices in strict alignment with NICE guidelines and NHS Trust formularies.

*

Participate in clinical governance, medical audits, quality improvement projects, and the educational supervision of junior doctors and specialty trainees.

Essential Candidate Requirements:

Full and unrestricted General Medical Council (GMC) Registration with a valid Licence to Practise.

*

Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry (CCT preferred or within 6 months of CCT/CESR approval).

*

Active Approved Clinician (AC) status and valid Section 12(2) accreditation in England.

*

MRCPsych qualification or equivalent international post-graduate medical award.

*

Proven NHS experience functioning as a Consultant Psychiatrist in mental health services.
