How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

FINTEC recruit is recruiting an experienced Senior RF / Microwave Engineer to join their clients engineering team, working on complex systems for airborne radar products.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced RF / Microwave engineer to work on technically challenging projects within the aerospace and defence sector, contributing to the design, development, integration and testing of advanced radar systems.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for delivering high-quality RF and microwave circuit designs and may also have the opportunity to supervise and support less experienced engineers within the project team.

This is a full time role based in Edinburgh.

    The Role

As a Senior RF / Microwave Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, commissioning and testing of RF / microwave circuitry for complex airborne radar systems.

    Key responsibilities include:

Designing high-quality and robust RF / microwave circuits

Supporting hardware and system-level integration and verification activities

    Designing and developing microwave sub-systems

Producing and maintaining technical documentation and project deliverables

Ensuring designs remain under configuration control

Supporting design reviews and technical investigations

    Providing regular project progress updates

Supporting and potentially supervising less experienced RF / Microwave engineers

Planning and managing your own technical activities and deliverables

    Essential Skills & Experience

You should have strong practical experience in RF / Microwave circuit design, ideally within a complex engineering environment.

    Essential experience includes:

Microwave PCB materials and design techniques

    Microwave sub-system design

Microwave power amplifier design and technology

    Complex microwave switch matrix design

Application of GaAs / GaN MMICs

    Complex passive microwave structure design

    S-parameter manipulation

2D and 3D electromagnetic simulation techniques

    Non-linear circuit simulation and modelling

    Matching network design

    Microwave component selection

Strong understanding of radar and RF systems

Experience with frequency synthesiser design and receiver architectures

RF / microwave PCB-level design using COTS active and passive components

Experience using one or more RF / Microwave design tools, such as:

    AWR Microwave Office

    CST Microwave Studio

    Keysight ADS

    AWR Visual System Simulator

    Desirable Experience

    The following would be advantageous:

Experience within the aerospace or defence industry

Experience working on complex or high-reliability systems

Experience designing DDS, PLL, DAC and ADC circuits

High dynamic range and low-noise circuit design

    Experience with phase-noise reduction techniques

Experience capturing and managing hardware requirements

Familiarity with requirements management tools and formal hardware verification

Previous experience supervising or mentoring RF / Microwave engineers

Experience planning and managing technical work for yourself and a small team

    Qualifications & Security Clearance

Honours or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering or a related STEM discipline, with a specialisation in RF / Microwave circuit design

UK Citizenship is mandatory to meet security requirements and obtain SC clearance

Existing SC Clearance would be advantageous

    Why Join?

This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-profile engineering programmes within the aerospace and defence sector, using advanced RF and microwave technologies.

You’ll join a highly skilled engineering environment where your technical expertise will contribute directly to the development of next-generation radar systems, while also providing opportunities to take on technical leadership responsibilities.
