How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About Darthaven

Darthaven is a trusted name in the marine industry with a long-standing reputation for excellence and commitment to customer satisfaction.

We have been located in Kingswear on the River Dart for many years, surrounded by the stunning South Hams countryside. In 2024, we expanded our business into Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City.

We are currently seeking skilled engineers to fill positions at our Kingswear site.

We pride ourselves on the reputation we have earned of providing first-class service to all our marine customers. We are also very proud of our status as an authorised Volvo Penta Distributing Dealer, supporting Volvo Penta dealers across the South West.

Joining our family-owned company, you’ll discover a friendly, welcoming environment, in a role where lifestyle is an important factor. Those who succeed are often as passionate about boats and a life on the water as our customers! So, if you are ready to take your marine career to the next level and want to join our fantastic company, this is the role you’ve been waiting for.

    What we expect

Be ready to be tasked with anything from technical fault-finding, repowering and upgrading of older vessels, alongside daily tasks of breakdown repairs and scheduled maintenance, to marine leisure, commercial vessels and the mechanical aspect of generators.

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated engineers to join our team. The role of Marine Engineer requires a deep understanding of marine engineering principles. You will be required to work on all aspects of boats and tenders, including inboard and outboard engines, engine controls and electrical systems, gearboxes, stern drives, IPS, stern gear, generators, pumps, fuel tanks and systems, thrusters and hydraulics, lifting, stropping and sea trials, to name but a few.

If you demonstrate the right aptitude, attitude, and professional standards, we’ll support you in developing your skills and progressing your career with Darthaven.

We normally work a 40 hour week, 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime hours are sometimes available for those who wish to work them; sometimes it is a requirement to meet workload and deadlines. We also require rostered availability for emergency callouts over weekends and some bank holidays. Overnight stays are sometimes required when working further afield or attending dealer-training courses.

Managing your allocated workload, you will complete time sheets, maintain customer engine service records, often online, use electronic parts catalogues to identify required parts, liaise directly with customers to keep them updated and respond to enquiries, providing the highest level of customer service at all times.

You will take the greatest of care and attention to detail in your work and will always go the extra mile to ensure our customers keep coming back to Darthaven Services for all their marine requirements.

    Benefits

    - 25 days’ holiday + Bank Holidays
    - A wide range of training including dealer training courses
    - Mobile phone
    - Workplace Pension
    - Stunning working location
    - Uniform

    Skills and experience

    Essential skills required:

    - At least five years’ experience working as a Marine Engineer (references required)
    - A strong customer focus with the ability to communicate with customers in person, by email and over the telephone
    - A team player
    - Basic IT skills
    - A manual UK driving licence
