How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Application Support Engineer with strong Linux and Python skills looking for your next opportunity with a leading technology business?

A well-established and highly regarded data platform company near Aylesbury/Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire is looking for a technically capable and proactive Application Support Engineer to join their team — offering a fantastic hybrid role where your Linux expertise and Python knowledge will be put to great use in a dynamic and data-driven environment.

    The Role
As Application Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of a sophisticated data platform. You'll be the go-to technical expert for application support issues, working closely with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and effectively. This is a hands-on role that requires strong Linux experience and solid Python skills — someone who is equally comfortable investigating a complex technical issue as they are scripting a solution to prevent it from happening again.

    Key Responsibilities

Providing application support for a leading data platform, taking ownership of incidents, problems, and service requests through to resolution
Diagnosing and troubleshooting complex technical issues across Linux-based environments, identifying root causes and implementing effective fixes
Writing, maintaining, and optimising Python scripts to automate processes, improve system performance, and support operational efficiency
Monitoring platform health and performance, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact the business
Working closely with development and infrastructure teams to manage releases, deployments, and configuration changes
Producing clear and accurate technical documentation including runbooks, incident reports, and knowledge base articles
Liaising with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors to manage and resolve technical issues effectively
Contributing to the continuous improvement of support processes, tools, and practices
    What We're Looking For

Proven experience in an application support, systems support, or similar technical role
Strong, hands-on Linux experience — essential; comfortable working in the command line, managing processes, and troubleshooting system-level issues
Solid Python scripting skills — able to write, read, and maintain scripts to support automation and problem resolution
Experience supporting data platforms, data pipelines, or similar data-focused technical environments is highly desirable
Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, or similar
Experience with SQL and database troubleshooting is advantageous
A methodical, analytical approach to problem solving with strong attention to detail
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Based within commuting distance of Aylesbury or Milton Keynes for hybrid working requirements
    What's on Offer

Hybrid working arrangement offering a great balance between office and home working
The opportunity to join a leading, well-regarded data platform business at an exciting stage of growth
A technically challenging and varied role with genuine scope to develop your skills and progress your career
    Great benefits
A collaborative and supportive team environment where your technical expertise will be truly valued
    How to Apply
If you're an experienced Application Support Engineer with strong Linux and Python skills and you're ready for your next challenge with a leading data platform business, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now with your up-to-date CV and one of our consultants will be in touch to discuss the opportunity in more detail
