Cure Talent are delighted to be partnered with an established medical device manufacturer as they appoint a Product Development Scientist to join their R&D function on an initial 6 month fixed term contract.
This is offered on an initial 6 month fixed term contract, with a strong likelihood of extension or transitioning into a permanent position thereafter. The position has arisen due to continued growth and increased project activity and is positioned as a genuine opportunity to embed yourself within a growing development function.
As the new Product Development Scientist, you will play a hands on role within new product development, line extensions and design changes across a portfolio of sterile, single use medical devices.
This is a practical, laboratory focused role, with clear responsibility for physical testing, design control documentation and validation support. You will work closely with Regulatory, Quality, Operations and Commercial teams to ensure projects are delivered in line with medical device regulatory and quality requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory-based physical and performance testing, including method development and design verification studies, in line with applicable GLP requirements.
- Support new product development, line extensions, design changes, and validation activities from concept through to launch and post-launch review.
- Prepare and maintain design history files, FMEAs, design control records, and other technical documentation required for regulatory submissions and quality compliance.
- Act as the R&D representative within cross-functional project teams, providing accurate technical information and contributing to project decisions.
- Manage multiple priorities, maintain organized and audit-ready records, develop work plans, and escalate project risks or timeline challenges where appropriate.
Experience and skills required
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a science-based subject, such as microbiology, chemistry, or a related discipline. Graduates will be considered.
- Experience in the medical device sector, ideally involving product development, R&D, or sterile single-use devices, would be an advantage but is not essential.
- Practical laboratory experience is helpful, particularly physical or performance testing rather than solely analytical research.
- Experience with design history files, design controls, and regulated quality systems, including exposure to ISO 13485, ISO 14971, MDR, or FDA requirements, is desirable.
- Strong organization, written and verbal communication, initiative, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
