How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

At the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), we provide security in retirement for our members and millions of people throughout the UK who belong to defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. Through the PPF and Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS), we compensate members for their pensions after the employer funding their pension becomes insolvent. In total, we look after over 400,000 members across the PPF and FAS. With over £30 billion in assets under management, our investments support long-term economic growth across the UK.

Our award-winning team of around 450 professionals has earned the IPE UK Pension Fund of the Year title three times in seven years. We work closely with government and industry partners to improve outcomes for scheme members, employers, and the broader pension system—playing a vital role in strengthening retirement security nationwide.

Are you passionate about using technology and continuous improvement to deliver better outcomes for customers?

We are looking for a Pension Systems Engineer to join our Performance Improvement team and play a key part in supporting the effective operation, development and ongoing enhancement of the PPF's pension administration systems and member services applications, ensuring they enable efficient, compliant and customer-focused services.

As a Pension Systems Engineer, you’ll work closely with operational teams, IT colleagues and external software providers to understand business challenges, triage system issues, deliver system enhancements and identify opportunities to improve processes and functionality. You’ll analyse business requirements, translate operational needs into system solutions and support the configuration, testing and implementation of changes.

The role also involves supporting system releases, managing environment controls and maintaining system stability, while ensuring stakeholders are kept informed throughout the change lifecycle. Using strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, you’ll investigate complex issues, assess risks and recommend practical improvements that enhance efficiency, automation and customer experience.

To be successful, you’ll have experience working closely with, or within, pension administration, customer services or contact centre environments and will have a track record of identifying and delivering service improvements. You’ll be comfortable configuring pension administration software or other business applications and will be able to interpret business needs and translate them into effective system solutions.

Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, as you’ll need to influence, persuade and challenge constructively across a range of audiences. You'll also have excellent analytical and organisational skills, be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and possess strong Microsoft Office and process mapping capabilities. Experience of analysing, documenting and improving processes, together with the ability to articulate business requirements and support system configuration, will be key to your success.

In return, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact on the services we provide to our members while working in a collaborative environment that values continuous improvement, innovation and professional development. If you enjoy solving problems, improving systems and working with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver meaningful change, we'd love to hear from you.

    Sound like you? Apply now.

In return for your skills, experience and commitment we’ll give you a challenging role within a business where you’ll get the support you need to develop your career.

We’ll also give you lots of opportunities for personal development and skills training.

Our Croydon office is just across the road from East Croydon station, which is around 15 minutes from Victoria or London Bridge, 10 minutes from Clapham Junction or half an hour from St Pancras.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader and actively encourage applications from people with disabilities. We are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know. We are happy to discuss your needs and ensure you have the support required.

We embrace diverse talent welcoming people with different beliefs, backgrounds and ways of working. Whatever your background, and however you identify, you’ll be welcome here.
