How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance and sustainability standards are maintained across a major section of the HS2 programme.

Working closely with construction, environmental and stakeholder teams, you will provide on-site environmental assurance, support best practice, and help deliver works in accordance with project commitments and environmental legislation.

    Key Responsibilities

Undertake environmental inspections and site audits across active construction areas.

Monitor compliance with environmental management plans, method statements and consent conditions.

Advise site teams on environmental risks, controls and mitigation measures.

Support the management of ecology, water management, noise, dust and pollution prevention requirements.

Identify non-conformances and work proactively with site teams to implement corrective actions.

Produce detailed inspection reports and maintain environmental records.

Liaise with environmental managers, ecologists, regulators and stakeholders as required.

Promote environmental best practice and drive continuous improvement across the project.

    Requirements

Previous experience working as an Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW), or similar site-based environmental role.

Strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance within construction or infrastructure projects.

Experience working on major civil engineering, rail, highways or infrastructure schemes.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to challenge and influence site teams positively to achieve environmental standards.

    Full UK driving licence.

    Desirable

Experience working on HS2 or other nationally significant infrastructure projects.

IEMA membership or relevant environmental qualifications.

Knowledge of ecological mitigation, protected species management and environmental permitting
