How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Field Service Engineer
Biomass Heating Systems | Mechanical Engineering | Industrial Plant
Mostly Planned Work | Minimal Overnight Stays | Premium Equipment

Are you an experienced Field Service Engineer looking for a role with less firefighting, reduced overnight travel and better support?

Our client is a well-established manufacturer of biomass and energy-from-waste systems with over 45 years of industry experience. Unlike many Field Service Engineer positions, most work consists of planned maintenance, servicing and installation rather than constant breakdown response.

    Benefits
    • Travel is mainly there-and-back-in-a-day, with overnight stays typically around 10-12 nights per year
    • Premium-brand company van
    • Quality tools and equipment provided, and we only work on the systems we designed, manufactured and installed
    • 40hr week, paid door-to-door
    • Dedicated service scheduling team supporting you
    • Product training and ongoing support
    • Established and financially stable business
    • Varied engineering work
    • Friendly team culture
    • From £18/hr upwards depending on skills - flexible
    The Role
The successful Field Service Engineer will be responsible for:
    • Servicing biomass heating systems
    • Installing and commissioning new equipment
    • Maintaining industrial shredding equipment
    • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs
    • Completing service reports electronically
    • Attending occasional training and team meetings
This Field Service Engineer role offers a mix of planned maintenance, installation, commissioning and occasional reactive service work.
    Experience Required
To be considered for this Field Service Engineer opportunity, you should have experience in one or more of the following:
    • Field Service Engineering
    • Mechanical Maintenance
    • Industrial Plant Equipment
    • Process Machinery
    • Heating Systems
    • Fault Finding and Repair
    • Installation and Commissioning
    • Welding or Fabrication (desirable)
Engineers from industrial heating, process plant, manufacturing, recycling, materials handling, combustion, HVAC, M&E, heavy engineering or mechanical maintenance backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
    Why Apply?
This Field Service Engineer position is ideal for engineers who want:
    • Better work-life balance
    • Less time away from home
    • Better planning and support
    • Quality equipment and vehicles
    • A professional service culture
    • Long-term career stability
If you are an experienced Field Service Engineer, Service Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Plant Engineer looking for a better-supported role with sensible travel expectations, we'd like to hear from you.
