Fire Alarm Engineer Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Fire Alarm Engineer to join a permanent, full-time team working across a range of customer sites.
This is a varied engineering position covering the installation, testing, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of fire alarm systems, smoke detection and emergency lighting. You’ll also be responsible for diagnosing faults and completing repairs, ensuring systems remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Fire Alarm Engineer with strong technical knowledge and the confidence to manage installation, commissioning and service work.
You’ll be logical and methodical in your approach, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to diagnose and resolve faults effectively. A professional attitude and strong communication skills are important, as you’ll be working directly with customers and representing the business on-site.
Fire Alarm & Life Safety Engineer Key Responsibilities
* Install, test and ideally commission fire alarm systems in line with relevant industry standards and regulations.
* Carry out planned servicing and maintenance of fire alarms, smoke detection and emergency lighting systems.
* Diagnose faults, undertake repairs and ensure systems remain operational and compliant.
* Complete clear and accurate service reports, commissioning documentation and other required records.
* Provide professional technical support to customers while maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Fire Alarm & Life Safety Engineer Requirements
* Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Engineer, Fire Systems Technician, Electrical Engineer or in a similar role.
* Strong practical knowledge of fire alarm installation, servicing, testing and fault-finding.
* Good understanding of relevant British Standards and fire safety regulations, with BS 5839 knowledge preferred.
* Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.
* FIA qualifications and/or ECS Card would be advantageous.
* Experience working with Protec fire alarm systems would be beneficial, but is not essential.
