I’m working with a rapidly growing London design and build contractor who are looking to strengthen their commercial team with the appointment of up to three Quantity Surveyors.
The London D&B division turnover £45m–£50m, supported by a strong level of repeat business and an expanding portfolio of larger projects.
This is an opportunity for a commercially driven surveyor to take genuine ownership of fast-paced London projects, becoming involved during pre-construction and remaining close to delivery through regular site visits.
The Role
Commercial management of single-stage design and build fit-out projects
Taking projects from pre-construction and procurement through to final account
Reviewing tender information and identifying commercial, contractual and design risk
Procurement and management of subcontract packages
Valuations, applications for payment and subcontractor payments
Monthly CVRs, cashflow forecasting and commercial reporting
Managing variations, change control and final accounts
Maintaining regular site involvement throughout post-contract delivery
Potentially managing multiple projects depending on size and programme
Projects
Commercial fit-out and refurbishment across Central London
Predominantly single-stage design and build
Core project values between £5m and £12m
Fast-paced programmes requiring proactive risk and cost management
What they’re looking for
Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with main-contractor experience
Fit-out or design and build experience is advantageous but not essential
Traditional contracting, retail or industrial fit-out backgrounds will also be considered
Strong procurement, CVR, valuation, change-control and final-account experience
Capable of identifying commercial and contractual risk before it becomes an issue
Comfortable taking ownership without being closely supervised
Able to work at pace and manage multiple responsibilities or projects
The Business
Established workplace design and build contractor
London division turning over approximately £45m–£50m
Around 70% repeat business
Increasingly securing projects valued between £5m and £12m
High-quality new headquarters in the City of London
Commercial structure: Head of Commercial, Commercial Managers and project-based surveyors
Typical working hours of 8:00am–5:00pm
One day working from home
Regular London site visits rather than permanent site-based working
Genuine scope to progress as the division and commercial team continue to grow
