How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About Elis
Elis is an international leader in textile, hygiene and facility services, helping businesses across a wide range of industries to operate safely, sustainably and efficiently. With a presence in 29 countries and a team of around 52,000 people, we combine the scale and stability of an international organisation with the opportunity to build a rewarding and long-term career.
Our people are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in investing in our people, recognising their contribution and giving them the opportunity to develop, progress and build careers they can be proud of.
At Elis, you'll be part of a culture built on trust, respect and collaboration, where your ideas and contribution are valued. We want our people to have a voice, and our commitment to listening and acting on employee feedback was recognised when Elis UK won Best Employee Engagement Experience Initiative at the 2024 CIPD People Management Awards for our Employee Voice programme.
With opportunities across operations, engineering, logistics, sales and our head office support functions, there are many ways to develop your career with Elis.
    The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the engineering function at our Healthcare site in Wednesbury.
This is a key site leadership role with responsibility for ensuring our engineering operation is safe, reliable, efficient and continually improving. You’ll lead and develop the engineering team while working closely with the General Manager and wider site leadership team to support operational performance and deliver the site business plan.
In a fast-paced Healthcare operation where reliability and quality are critical, you’ll take ownership of preventative and corrective maintenance, engineering standards, compliance and continuous improvement.
This isn’t just about keeping the machinery running. We’re looking for someone who can lead people, improve performance and drive change.
    What You'll Be Doing
    * Lead, coach and develop the site engineering team, creating a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
    * Take ownership of the site's planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme, ensuring activity is effective, completed and continuously improved.
    * Plan and coordinate engineering resources to support production requirements, corrective maintenance, machinery replacement and unplanned breakdowns.
    * Oversee the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of site equipment and facilities.
    * Ensure corrective engineering work is completed safely, efficiently and within appropriate timescales.
    * Drive compliance with Elis QHSE standards and relevant internal and external regulations, including risk assessments, COSHH, RIDDOR and safe systems of work.
    * Manage and develop engineering KPIs, using data to identify trends and improve site performance.
    * Manage engineering budgets, forecasting and expenditure, investigating and addressing variances.
    * Work with approved suppliers and contractors to source parts, machinery, surveys and specialist support.
    * Support the training and development of engineers and operational colleagues on new machinery and safe working practices.
    * Lead engineering-related continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and environmental performance.
    * Work collaboratively with the General Manager and wider leadership team to deliver the site's operational objectives.
    What We're Looking For
You’ll be an experienced engineering leader who combines strong technical knowledge with great people leadership.
    Ideally, you’ll bring:
    * Proven management experience within industrial maintenance, manufacturing or a process-driven environment.
    * Strong operational maintenance experience.
    * Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
    * A strong understanding of both planned and reactive maintenance.
    * Experience working with boilers and steam systems.
    * Experience delivering continuous improvement programmes.
    * Strong health, safety and compliance knowledge.
    * The ability to analyse engineering and operational data and turn it into meaningful action.
    * Good commercial awareness, including experience of engineering budgets and forecasting.
    * A relevant engineering qualification such as a degree, HND, HNC, NVQ Level 5 or City & Guilds, or a time-served apprenticeship with relevant electrical, mechanical or steam experience.
    * NEBOSH, IOSH or other relevant QHSE qualifications would be advantageous.
    What We Offer
At Elis, we believe great people should be recognised, supported and given the opportunity to grow. In return for the impact you’ll make, you’ll receive a strong benefits package and the opportunity to build a long-term career within an established international business.
    We offer:
    * Competitive salary – recognising your experience and the importance of the role
    * 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays – giving you time to switch off and recharge
    * Private medical cover – supporting your health and wellbeing
    * Company pension – 5% employer contribution alongside 5% employee contribution
    * Life assurance – providing additional peace of mind for you and your family
    * Investment in your development – with ongoing training and opportunities to grow your technical and leadership capabilities
    * Genuine career progression – with opportunities to develop your career across Elis in the UK and our wider international business
