How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Engineering Manager - Water & Infrastructure

    Hybrid working (2 days per week from home)

    CAN BE BASED FROM ANY OFFICES - MANCHESTER, CHESTER, LEEDS, GUILDFORD, LONDON, NOTTINGHAM, NEWCASTLE

    As my client continue to grow their Water and Infrastructure capability across the UK, we're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join and lead the delivery of technically excellent, multi-disciplinary projects across the water and industrial sectors.

    This is an exciting opportunity for a senior engineering professional who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability and a passion for developing high-performing teams.

    About The Role

    As an Engineering Manager, you'll provide technical and people leadership across a portfolio of water and infrastructure projects, ensuring the successful delivery of engineering solutions from concept through to detailed design and construction support.

    You'll work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers and discipline leads, providing technical governance, design oversight and mentoring to engineering teams while maintaining strong client relationships. You'll play a key role in developing capability within the business and supporting the growth of Water sector offering across the UK.

    The role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, pipelines, reservoirs and associated civil and structural infrastructure.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead and manage multi-disciplinary engineering teams delivering projects across the water and infrastructure sectors.
    Provide technical leadership and governance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring quality, safety and compliance requirements are met.
    Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, reports and technical documentation.
    Act as Technical Lead or Design Lead on major projects and frameworks.
    Support the planning, resourcing and delivery of projects to programme, budget and quality objectives.
    Develop strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders, acting as a trusted technical advisor.
    Drive collaboration across disciplines to deliver integrated, best-for-project solutions.
    Mentor, coach and develop engineers at all levels, supporting technical excellence and career progression.
    Support business development activities, proposal preparation and client engagement opportunities.
    Promote innovation, continuous improvement and the application of industry best practice.
    Champion a strong culture of safety, quality and sustainability across project teams.

    About You

    Significant experience in civil engineering, infrastructure or water sector project delivery.
    Strong technical knowledge across water and wastewater treatment assets, pipelines, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
    Experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams within a consultancy or contractor environment.
    Demonstrated ability to provide technical governance, design assurance and engineering oversight.
    Strong stakeholder management and client-facing experience.
    Experience managing project resources, budgets and delivery programmes.
    Excellent communication and leadership skills with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
    A strong understanding of British Standards, water industry standards and engineering best practice.

    Ideally, You'll Also Have:

    Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
    Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE or another relevant professional institution.
    Experience working within design and build and/or major UK water frameworks.
