How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Work Experience Officer - Construction
    Location:  Newcastle College
    Salary:  £26,878 - £32,291 per annum
    Full time hours initially fixed term until 31st August 2027

    Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is one of the very best colleges in the country.  In October 2024 we became the first and only further education provider in England to achieve a full set of outstanding grades in consecutive Ofsted Inspections.     The group is currently home to a population of over 6,500 full-time students with around 2,000 adult learners and students on higher education programmes. We have over 1,500 apprentices where we work with over 850 individual employers.  Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.

    This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Employer Partnerships and Work Placement team.

    The role will involve supporting the development, co-ordination and delivery of meaningful work experience opportunities for Construction learners across Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group.  The successful candidate will proactively identify and engage construction employers to secure appropriate work experience opportunities for learners studying Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical and other relevant Construction programmes

    The ideal candidate will hold a relevant qualification and have substantial experience of working with young people, employers or within an education, employability or learner support environment.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

    •    To develop positive and professional relationships with construction employers, promoting the benefits of providing work experience and supporting employers to participate effectively.
    •    To work closely with curriculum teams to identify learners requiring work experience and understand the requirements and intended outcomes of their placement.
    •    To match learners to appropriate work experience opportunities, taking account of their programme of study, career aspirations, skills, individual circumstances and the requirements of the employer.
    •    To support learners to become work and site-ready prior to placement, including relevant pre-placement requirements such as CSCS cards and other industry-specific requirements where appropriate.
    •    To ensure all necessary placement documentation and checks are completed accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with College procedures and relevant health and safety, safeguarding and insurance requirements.
    •    To ensure work experience placements and associated learner and employer information are accurately recorded and maintained on College systems, including Grofar, to support effective monitoring, reporting and audit requirements.

    Required Skills and Experience:

    •    Holds a relevant qualification
    •    Has substantial experience of supporting young people or learners within an education, employability or structured support environment.
    •    Holds English & Maths GCSE or equivalent.
    •    Is an effective communicator.
    •    Has strong administrative skills, well organised, able to keep accurate and easily retrievable records.
    •    Holds a current driving licence and has use of a car.
    •    IT literate, experience of using MS Office software and databases.
