How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Giftware Department Manager
    Location: Nottingham
    Salary: Competitive DOE

This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a busy and commercially important Giftware department within an established garden centre.

It's a broad role covering a wide range of categories including homeware, candles and fragrance, fashion, jewellery, toys and seasonal ranges. Buying forms a significant part of the position, alongside leading the team, driving sales and maintaining strong retail standards.

    What you'll be doing:
As Giftware Department Manager, you'll have responsibility for the commercial performance, presentation and day to day running of the department.

Leading and supporting a small team across the Giftware department.
Driving sales, standards and overall department performance.
Buying across a broad range of giftware and seasonal categories.
Attending buying events in the UK and occasionally Europe.
Managing stock levels, replenishment, margins and product ranges.
Maintaining strong merchandising and visual standards across the department.
Playing a key role in seasonal trading, particularly Christmas.
Managing rotas, administration and general department organisation.
Working closely with the wider management team across the garden centre.

    What they're looking for:

Previous retail management or supervisory experience.
A commercially minded retailer with a good understanding of sales, stock and merchandising.
Strong people management skills and the ability to lead from the front.
Someone with a good eye for product, presentation and visual merchandising.
Buying experience would be beneficial, although it isn't essential and training can be provided.
Garden centre experience would be preferred, although strong candidates from other retail environments will be considered.
An organised, hands on manager who is comfortable working across a broad and varied department.

    Why join?

Take ownership of a sizeable and varied retail department.
Genuine involvement in buying and product selection.
Exposure to UK and European buying events.
    Structured induction and training available.
    Established team already in place.
Opportunity to develop your buying and commercial retail experience.
    Company pension.
    Free on site parking.
    Staff discount.
