How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    My client is an innovative, employee-owned consulting engineering business. They have a team of more than 900 highly skilled people, in 15 offices across the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Middle East where they design and deliver engineering solutions for clients in the Property, Transport, Ports and Marine, Water, Renewables and Defence sectors.
     
    They collaborate with leading contractors, developers, architects, planners, financiers and government agencies, to create projects that make a difference to people's lives.
     
    The Role:
    The London office is looking for a Senior to Associate level Geotechnical Engineer to form a key part of a growing geotechnical team.  You will work with the Geotechnics Lead to support and grow the team, working closely with the other office disciplines of structural, civil, infrastructure and bridge engineering as well as independent geotechnical consultancy.  
    As such, the nature and type of work will be varied, ranging from the design of foundations and earth structures for temporary works through to the integrated design of deep basements and foundation solutions for tall buildings.  Whilst the majority of the work is UK-based, they are an international practice and often work in other geographies.  Knowledge and experience of geotechnical work in a more global context would be welcome.
     
    The role will include a varied mix of responsibilities including:
     
    ·A good level of previous experience in geotechnical engineering or relevant fields;
    ·Qualified to MEng level or above;
    ·Strong written and verbal communication skills internally and with clients;
    ·Independently draft reports, specifications, testing regimes, prepare site investigations;
    ·Independently draft proposals and understand commercial aspects of quoting projects;
    ·Strong understanding of how to manage a project from inception, budgeting, and resourcing, to revenue recognition and invoicing;
    ·Be confident working with external partners and clients;
    ·Ideally have an existing client network;
    ·Sound technical background and analytical skills relating too:
    oFoundation solutions (e.g., deep foundations, rafts, piled rafts, etc.);
    oSoil-structure interaction;
    oDeep excavations;
    oRetaining wall design and construction;
    oEarthworks.
    ·Be competent in the use of the following software packages:
    oMS Office;
    oSlope/W or equivalents;
    oOasys XDisp;
    oPlaxis 2D/3D;
    oWallAP or equivalent;
    oSettle 3D
    ·Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards and guidelines;
    ·Ability to rapidly develop effective geotechnical design solutions for a range of different scenarios and sectors;
    ·Confident ability to undertake work independently and as a team;
    ·Ability to review the work of others and communicate feedback effectively in a considered fashion;
    ·Ability to supervise and grow a team of junior engineers;
    ·Demonstrate ability to manage projects commercially to achieve strong outcomes;
    ·Be familiar with working at different stages of project design (concept, schematic, detailed, execution);
    ·Have good ties with industry bodies and partners associated with geotechnics and foundations;
    ·General understanding of embodied carbon studies, decarbonisation of materials, and sustainability initiatives in construction;
    ·Confident ability to introduce yourself around the different disciplines in the office including the bridge, buildings, and civil teams.

    You will be a key member of the Engineering team, where you'll strengthen their skills and capabilities and provide support to the engineering and drafting teams.
