How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Housing Register & Advice Officer

    Location: Croydon, CR0 1EA (Hybrid Working)
    Contract: 3 Month Temporary Assignment (Possible Extension)
    Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday
    Pay Rate: £16.36 per hour PAYE
    Office Attendance: 3 days office-based, 2 days remote working

    Are you experienced in housing needs, allocations, housing register assessments, or housing advice? We are recruiting for a Housing Register & Advice Officer to join a busy Housing Needs team, supporting residents by assessing housing applications, providing expert housing advice, and ensuring fair access to social housing opportunities.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality customer service and supporting vulnerable residents through complex housing issues.

    The Role

    As a Housing Register & Advice Officer, you will be responsible for assessing applications to the housing register, determining eligibility and priority in line with housing legislation and allocation policies, and providing comprehensive housing advice to residents.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Assessing housing register applications and determining eligibility, priority, and banding.
    Verifying applications through evidence gathering, records checks, and liaison with internal and external partners.
    Providing housing advice and guidance to applicants, helping them understand their housing options and prospects.
    Managing medical priority assessments and coordinating relevant supporting evidence.
    Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation.
    Responding to enquiries from residents, advocates, councillors, and MPs within agreed timescales.
    Identifying safeguarding and child protection concerns and making appropriate referrals.
    Working collaboratively with housing providers, support agencies, and council departments to achieve positive outcomes for residents.
    Promoting alternative housing solutions, mobility schemes, and home ownership initiatives where appropriate.Essential Requirements

    We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:

    Good knowledge of social housing, housing allocations, homelessness legislation, and housing register processes.
    Experience assessing housing applications or working within a housing needs, allocations, homelessness, or housing advice environment.
    Strong customer service skills with the ability to explain complex housing matters clearly and sensitively.
    Demonstrable empathy and commitment to supporting vulnerable residents.
    Ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions whilst applying legislation, policy, and procedural guidance accurately.
    Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload and competing priorities.
    Strong written communication skills, including drafting professional correspondence, reports, and case notes.
    High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
    Experience working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
    Resilience and professionalism when dealing with challenging situations.
    Good IT skills, including experience using case management systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
    Ability to prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines.What's on Offer?
